What do you all think about the proposed statue?
I think that the councils decision to allow the statue to be made out of Sheffield is the ultimate insult to a city 'built' on steel which has had its industry slowly strangled since the 1980's.
If cost has been the deciding factor then they ought not to have bothered having it at all.
I think that we should get a campaign up to boycott it.
More proof that the council are a bunch of *****....
I mean come on, the thing is supposed to commemorate Sheffield, but they want it made OUTSIDE the city?! WTF are they smoking?!
not being in the great city, anyone got a link to a piccie of the statue?

cheers
does seem to beggar belief that it's going to be made in Bristol tho.. :loopy:
There's a certain irony there but I don't thik this is as mad as it seems. What's mad is that no-one in Sheffield cab compete competitivevly for this contract.
Imagine if we found out that the council had allowed to be buolt in Sgheffield at an extra casot of £500k, for instance. We'd then be saying that the council was daft.
then again I suppose they waste a lot more money on other projects...
Bristol?! WTF has Bristol got to do with sheffield?!
Seriously the council are retarded muppets.

I take it you have read the article? From your response you sound like a certain Scrivens, whinger extraordinaire of this parish.
Jan Wilson defended the decision.
She said: "The sculpture is being made from steel supplied by Avesta Sheffield. The artists, Si Applied, are also based in Sheffield.
"The British Stainless Steel Association, based in Sheffield, advised us who are the best companies for this, and we invited the best to bid.
"The scheme is being paid for with external funding and we are duty bound to get the best for that money. Sheffield firms have had every opportunity.
"We would have been delighted if a Sheffield company had won the contract, but we cannot 'gift' it to Sheffield. To suggest that this is a deliberate snub is just plain wrong."
Steel from a Sheffield company.
Designed by Sheffield artists.
Brute labour from outside Sheffield.
Your problem is?:loopy:

My problem is this Statue will not have the Made in Sheffield mark on it.
Perhaps they could make one out of all our old cutlery that is made in the far east and then sent to Sheffield for 'polishing' and having "Made in Sheffield " stamped on the side of it?
