Does anyone know any insurance companies that will take into account the fact that I've been a named driver on someone else's insurance, therefore giving me a bit of a no claims bonus?

you could be aswell asking them to give 2 quotes, ignoring the fact & including it.some companies offer bigger dicounts for new customers than experienced ones.

You can only claim the no claims discount under that policy with written authority from the person whose policy it was! (sometimes this can be tricky but it can be done...)

Generally no claims bonus is earned by the policyholder and is non-transferable.

However, when I worked in insurance I have seen bonus transferred where say the husband died and the policy was to be transferred into his widows name who happened to have been a named driver under the policy for many years etc

or another example would be where the main user was no longer to be the main user due to various things like illness, etc

But it is usually done when the drivers involved are of similar ages or experience....

ie., you would find it hard to get an insurance company to accept bonus from a 50 year old father to his 19 year old daughter etc

Quite a lot of insurance companies will offer you an introductory discount if you have been a named driver for more than 12 mths on another policy with them!

Hope this helps

When I got divorced I had been a named driver for about 15 years but couldnt use his no claims discount when I had to insure myself. However, whilst phoning around I did find a broker who gave me a discount, not a no claims discount, but when I explained my situation, they knocked me something off. So just phone around and find the cheapest. Dont use the net as you cant explain the above to them.
