View Full Version : Forum suggestion, what do you think?

I've found that I sometimes don't know whether a poster is female or male, so don't you think it would be a good idea to have the little male or female symbol (http://www.solihull.gov.uk/youngpeople/careleavers/images/gender.jpg) under a persons avatar with post count etc?

Interesting idea...could this work if each member had a choice as to whether this was shown in their personal options?

I voted No. I prefer to speak to people for their personality.

Also sometimes the fun is in NOT knowing if they are male or female and being surprised if you get it wrong.

Give it a rest. I've just noticed a couple of people on the "What turns you off about men" thread that are women.. But I always thought were men. Nothing to do with me trying anything on, so save your ******** comments for a not so light-hearted thread.

It wasn't abuse. I was merely stating that this thread is a light hearted one, so arsey comments aren't welcome. Yours was an arsey comment, so I pointed out that it wasn't welcome, end of.

Anyway, Gaz, you seem to think that I'm saying there's something wrong with chatting people up.

I just couldn't see any other reason why I'd be particularly bothered about knowing someone's gender.
And if it was relevant to their post, then I'd obviously be able to tell which they were.

Maybe they can add their sexual preferences and vital statistics too?

Why not throw in other options, such as "Easy?", "Give head?" and "Bunny Boiler?". Then we'd be getting somewhere, right?

How about a full medical record as well - physical and psychological.

As an added bit we could have a police type profiling of members.

Anything else?

Well just vote no and shut up then. I don't know how you're feeling Gaz but I'm sick of people looking for slagging matches. Gaz only asked a simple question that required a simple answer and possibly even a reason to go with it. So why are you trying to make suggestions and make out that he's a pervert?????

How about an option to put M/F in you profile page, then if anyone is really that interested they can have a look, and if you don't want to know then don't look.

OK peeps I think this is getting a bit naaaaaaaaaaaaaaasty!

The only reason I said yes is because I am always reading posts and when the name is not obvious I am always wondering whether its a m or f!

Plus as most of the forum is based on peoples views etc it is sometimes nice to know whether its coming from a m or f mind!

GazB
25-11-2005, 13:57
Careful Clare, you may be at risk of wanting to know who you can hit on or not.

Gaz, stop being so stroppy and ruining the lovely mental image I have of you - thanks to your gorgeously cute aviator!

I voted yes, because it would be nice to know whether opinions on certain threads are coming from male or female minds. It's also easy to get confused and build up a picture of someone in your head that turns out to be totally wrong - for example, I though Deavon was a girl for ages. And I thought Shiesh was a boy!

It could be optional, the same as stating your location is!

As I've mentioned before, I've never come across a woman called "Carmine", but folks on here still seem to think: "I'm a lady" (in the style of Emily Howard).

I don't see a need for people to know what gender posters are. Shouldn't there be an option in the poll for putting posters' full name, address and phone number while we are at it? ;)

PS: There have been a few posters whose gender I have wondered about. For quite a while, I thought Internetowl was a female!

I voted no.

Just because the post where someone ( male) thought Deavon was a girl and chatted them up via PM made me laugh so much. I know it's not nice to laugh at someone elses misfortune but it was funny.

I like guessing whom is male/female. I thought Dragon was male at first then thought they were female then gone back to thinking they are male.

Maybe someone should do a poll to find out how many cross-dressers there are on SF?

Are you a woman who fancies men trapped in a mans body, or a lesbian trapped in a mans body? Hmmm?

There ya are - a little bit more information to add to the growing list.

Next.

I think that this idea is the better option, personally. (and that it be optional, rather than mandatory, for safety reasons)

I am a bit concerned that some women on the net would not want to be identified as specifically being female, for reasons of self protection...

The idea of being hit-on concerned me, too, I don't come on here to "pick-up" or "be picked-up"; I come on here to natter with my friends, and have the occasional "Heated Debate" (TM) with certain factions. (which can be as interestiing)

I'm only an occasional poster, people don't know me so I assume they don't care if I'm M/F/both. Having said that I think anonymity can make a post misunderstood  oh well, I know what I mean. I don't think its important, but don't object either. What does annoy me is because I don't personally know people I'm unsure of some of the replies...witty/sarcastic/in jokes between friends, things of that ilk, but thats my problem not theirs.
