OK so ther was a protest in town last wek but that didnt do 'owt'. Something actually needs to be done about the bus fare. Everyone is getting ripped off to the max. This really takes the ****. Does anyone have any suggestions about what to do. Where is First headquarters, anyway? Cos most people ive spoken to have been complaining to the transport executive, who are a public service who have nothin to do with First. Lets start a huge **** off campaign. I bet we could get EVERYONE in Sheffield to sign a petition. We could hire ****in minibuses to take us to and from work for cheaper. The fares have gone up, simplty because some bloke wants a more expensive Telly/car/holiday. U all know the score. This is Sheffield.

totally agree people! as a student I am currently running all over sheffield for a research project from Wybourn to Dore and over to Bradway plus more...I've spent a ridiculous amount of money doing this on public transport-though I do approve of fairs on the Yorkshire Terrier lines...and they're friendler bus drivers!! :)

If you don't like First don't use them - use other bus companies.

If First see the fares increase has caused a plummet in passenger numbers with the effect that they are actually taking less revenue, then they may decide to cut the fares. Otherwise, from a business point of view, they will see the fares increase was the right thing to do.

Some of you might find this info useful, but not many. If you are arriving or departing Sheffield by train to/from a station outside South Yorkshire, you can buy a 'Plusbus' ticket for £2.20 to add on to your rail ticket, which entitles you to a days unlimited travel by any bus company anywhere in South Yorkshire. This can only be bought from railway station ticket offices.

just thought id report that i wrote a lette to gary nolan at that rotherham address last week, just waiting for the response now.

but as an observation, me and my kids usually get the (cram packed full) tram from arbourthorne road to hillsboro in the morning. we have been late a couple of mornings this week so have jumped onto a 51 bus - wow, it wasnt very full until it got to olive grove, but compared to what it was like last year, there seems to be quite a drop in the number of people using it!
different story on the way home though......

Ahhh, but then they say "Over recent years First has been hit by above-inflationary cost increases partly affected by global issues such as high energy prices. The company is now committed to freezing fares until January 2007 unless the economic situation changes and in particular if energy costs rise ".

So basically they'll use their 'get out' clause wherever possible. What happens if the cost of fuel drops?? Bet their fares dont get revised then.

It doesn't fill me with confidence when the announcement is dated 28th November...

It costs me £3 to get into town and back from Ranmoor- about 3 miles. I then get a nice comfy, punctual & reliable National Express coach forty miles to Leeds and back for just 60pence more (with a season ticket). These rises are nothing to do with fuel prices- NatEX havent put up their fares.

I only use the busses in an emergency now. So overpriced its a joke! Plus 2 recent experiences of bad tempered bus drivers, one of them a woman who was clearly late for getting home and having some tea!!. :(

I have to say the conductors on the trams have always been friendly so far. :)

Andy C's right - First only care about profits, so they only way to hit them is in their pocket. Boycott their buses and, if enough people do it, the fares will drop.

People who think writing letters will help are living in a dream world I'm afraid. Do you write to Waitrose or PC World telling them their prices are too expensive?

The best thing to do is contact VOSA about any specific complains rather than the company themselves as they just palm you off with excuses and don't bother to change their ways.

lalalalalalalalaaaa.............at least in dream world the buses are cheap and run on time:D :D

actually, i wrote to the bus company to complain about the number 51 buses being diverted straight down east bank road to avoid the serious white van congestion during the reno's on arbourthorne rd. I agree with the diversion (before i get chuntered at!), its the fact that the drivers dont have the common decency/sense/courtesy to stop at the top of arbourthorne road and wave people from the bus stop over to them. the diversion is hit and miss.....it depends on the driver as to whether he diverts or not it according to one driver...
This ignoring waiting passengers has happened every weekday, at least once a day, since the beginning of november, and i wrote cos i was sick of it.
i dont live in a dream world, but writing a letter is the only way i can 'make my voice heard'.
it isnt always convenient to get the tram, especially if i have my elderly relatives with me, so not using first isnt always an option.

unles you, andy, want to ferry me, my ancient relis and my 3 noisy little kids about  i shall have to stick to my dream world.
