No this isn't the name of some rock band although it does have a ring to it! I have posted this as a question to Richard Eyre but it looks like this interview will not take place so i thought i would see what you lot think.
I am talking about the extraction fans that blow onto the street from Fast Food Kithcens. The passer-by on foot walking under one of these gets a disgusting basting of warm air mixed with grease, it also smells disgusting. You only have to look on the pavement below it to see just what it is chucking out into your hair and lungs and onto your skin. One example of this is 'Aslans' on the jucntion of West Street and Fitzwilliam Street. The pavement is covered in grease, the drain outside is blocked and is stinks. The air duct points the air flow down, but even if it points up eventually after cooling it will fall back to earth.
I've thought about going in but i know i will kick off and i'm buggered if i am going to cross the road! Who do i report this to, Enviromental Health?

The interview is taking place (and very shortly) I was merely indicating that unless more people take advantage of these interviews and submit questions (like you have) then I will probably not bother to do any more in the future.
I completely agree about the Aslan's fan, it's amazing that they are allowed to get away with it, even more so now it's right next to the the new West One development and therefore a much busier area than before. Also, if you walk down Division Street back towards the city centre (i.e. directly behind that row of fast food outlets and Varsity), it smells like one (or all) of them has a serious drain problem(!).
Have you e-mailed (or phoned in) your concerns to the council about this? As Max quite rightly states, you can't moan the council don't do anything unless you report it... after all you can't expect them to proactively go out and search for things to do... lol (j/k Max ;) )
If you do e-mail though, tell them the street light outside Aslans is still not in operation even though it was installed before Christmas...
Thanks Geoff!,
One the new Restaraunts in the West One complex is making a right old mess of the pavement as well. I'm not sure which one, so i won't have a guess here unless i get it wrong!!
Without ruining the answer from Richard Eyre I can give some info on this as I work on such issues in the city centre. Myself and a colleague have had problems with litter from 'Aslans' and yes the fan has been noted as the grease on the floor can very slippy at times. This has been reported to the Enviromental services who brought a health inspector down over a number of problems as well as the above mentioned before christmas. I haven't heard any word about it since but they were made to clean everything up! I can find out what the laws are on extraction fans, but I wont be able to post anything as i'm in Scotland until next thursday from tomorrow.
Cheers Duffman!, I await your update. I think i will report it all the same to 'beef' it up a little, plus highlight (no pun intended) the point Geoff made anbout the lighting outside not working.

Yes that has been noted, but I think it may be the system connecting the row of buildings from Aslans to Kahns curry house and not just the few take outs, it makes me want to hurl every time I walk past:wow:
Hi johnjo,
Sorry i've been so long in getting back on this but it's only my first week back at work. I have a meeting with an enviromental warden on Friday and I have some pictures ready of some big dollops of fat from the extractor fan on the street (sorry to anyone eating their tea). Hopefully I will have some answers for you by the weekend.
Duff!
I don't need an extraction fan to get rid of it, gravity does it for me.
