Did attempt to learn once but was too nervous. Wasn't me I was worried about it was the other idiots on the road. Its a bit of an issue at the moment actually, other half is complete petrol head. He is trying to persuede me into getting a little scooter. Would be a lot easier for work, and if I was pottering around quiet country lanes I'd be fine, but don't think I could cope with city driving, too many impatient, selfish, idiot drivers. I would love to, mom and sister, and most of the family are disabled, so it would help greatly.. but.. just cant afford to pay for the lessons, or whats more, the car/upkeep once im passed lessions. kirky 23-11-2005, 06:13 Originally posted by Meaks What's to be proud of? he likes catching buses.....with pride:hihi: :hihi: :hihi:  carcrash 23-11-2005, 07:19 I can't and I'm quite happy not doing so. kirky 23-11-2005, 07:21 Originally posted by carcrash I can't and I'm quite happy not doing so. thats coz your lass drives so you get the best of both worlds.......getting legless and then a lift home.......nowt finer, thats why i paid for our stacey to learn:thumbsup: Bic0 23-11-2005, 07:23 Originally posted by carcrash I can't and I'm quite happy not doing so. (going a bit OTT here i know!!!) :hihi: matt1889 23-11-2005, 08:58 Can drive, but many people would tell you that i can't if you get what I mean! Gotta agree with Kirky though, Nowt better than letting someone else drive after you've been out on the lash all day! If it was'nt for our lass being able to drive, i'd have got rid a long time ago, lol Good job she has'nt got the t'internet! viking 23-11-2005, 09:06 I remember when i took my driving test. The examiner said "In the traffic light sequence, what colour comes after red and amber?" I said "No idea, Iv;e normally gone by then". carcrash 23-11-2005, 09:07 Ther's enough idiots on the road without it been made compulsory. craigmason 23-11-2005, 09:10 why did they make the test at the end so hard would it not be better to do a practical exam AtticusFinch 23-11-2005, 09:25 I can't drive and I'm pretty proud of it. My dad has always said that if you've never learned to drive you won't miss it, but once you get a car you then can't live without it. I'm therefore proud not to have signed up to a car dependency. I'm also quite an idealist. I think people make far too many unnecessary journeys, and getting a car often makes people lazy. People start using the car to make half mile journeys, which isn't very good for the environment. I can't guarantee that I'll never learn to drive, but I'm almost 26 and I've managed okay thus far. I definitely can't see myself learning to drive within the next 3-5 years. Andy 23-11-2005, 09:29 Originally posted by viking I remember when i took my driving test. (going a bit OTT here i know!!!) :hihi: That wouldn't work, in practicality, Scott, there are categories of people who are simply not permitted to drive:- For example people who have uncontolled epilepsy are forbidden to hold a licence... People who have diabetes have to renew their licence every three years.... Certain other categories of disability also have restrictions on them, in that they have to be declared to the DVLA. I agree with that, I dont drive and since we lost our car a couple of weeks ago Mr H.P has had to buss it to work hes really missing the car.. I am not.. I walk everywhere during the day anyway so it makes no difference to me, not that I think I'll ever get in a car again anyway *Ryan* 23-11-2005, 11:21 my theory, some people were born to drive, some people were born to be driven, and some people were just well born.. thats something to be proud of :D hazel 23-11-2005, 11:22 I don't drive and it is the biggest regret of my life that I never learnt It has limited my choices all my life being dependent on others for lifts as bus services were not always adequate. So therefore I stopped seeing friends, limited choice of shops, limited to what I could carry and with 3 small children limited in what I could do. And the time wasted in travelling on Public transport. Take my advice and learn. hazel sheff_minx 23-11-2005, 11:26 Hopefully I'll be one step closer this afternoon if I can pass my theory :help: scottf 23-11-2005, 11:26 Originally posted by hazel I don't drive and it is the biggest regret of my life that I never learnt It has limited my choices all my life being dependent on others for lifts as bus services were not always adequate. You can't just get up and go somewhere on a whim- you have to check public transport and rely on that, i myself couldn't live let my life be governed by first!!! Eleri 23-11-2005, 11:31 Can't drive, won't drive, and after my past antics on motorbikes (resulting in a dented crash barrier, one knackered knee and a smashed up arm) I think I'm doing the world a favour by not learning ;) scottf 23-11-2005, 11:36 Originally posted by Eleri Can't drive, won't drive, and after my past antics on motorbikes (resulting in a dented crash barrier, one knackered knee and a smashed up arm) I think I'm doing the world a favour by not learning ;) but you have 4 wheels on a car :D much more stable!! twichibi 23-11-2005, 11:39 Originally posted by scottf I think it should be made compulsary- u never know when you might need to drive somewhere in an emergency- what happens when your wife goes into labour for example!!! Eleri 23-11-2005, 11:48 Originally posted by scottf but you have 4 wheels on a car :D much more stable!! Unfortunately, that doesn't make up for my attention span (best likened to a pregnant goldfish) ;) The damage I could do in a car doesn't bear thinking about. :( tiffy 23-11-2005, 12:11 I can't drive on the roads these days - too many impatient, bad-tempered and uncaring road users that can't go fast enough and would still probably grumble if they all had jets. They obviously forget that they were once pedestrians. I'm also into doing my bit for the environment and have strong feelings regarding cars travelling with only one person. BrainThrust 23-11-2005, 12:15 I don't drive. I'm convinced I would end up killing someone (maybe myself) and I don't want that on my conscience. Wilf scottf 23-11-2005, 12:46 Originally posted by twichibi Then we would need a car park the size of Rotherham. Or just a big car park- its not like there isn't any spare industrial land going spare!! :D JBee 23-11-2005, 13:12 Originally posted by tiffy I'm also into doing my bit for the environment and have strong feelings regarding cars travelling with only one person. Don't think I like this comment tiffy. Why would you have 'strong feelings' for cars travelling with only one person, when you don't know anything about that person? I'm assuming these feelings are negative? I do my bit for the environment too. In fact I do a lot of bits for the environment. But there's only ever one person in my car - and that's me. I wouldn't be able to lead the life I lead or do the job I do without it, so I don't really think I deserve criticism for the fact that I drive alone. I'm single and I live nearly 400 miles away from my family. What's a girl to do? playman 23-11-2005, 13:30 what a fantastic idea to make driving comulsary, we could all go out and sit in our cars and sit and sit and sit and never go anywhere unless we walk cos there would be so many cars that all the roads would be full before anybody went anywhere, it is obvious if you can drive you will eventually get your own transport, but just think no need for vehicle excise, insurance, petrl pump price rises etc... cos no one would be able to go. and there would be no need for traffic planners, no need for pedestrian crossings no pot holes cos we could pave the roads it sounds like utopia. tiffy 23-11-2005, 13:31 My reference being to traffic jams, tail-backs and the number of parking spaces taken up when the offer of a lift to work-colleagues/friends etc who are known to be going to the same places. Also if car pooling had been exercised by a few people during the recent grid-lock in town it would have helped a little. You are not to blame considering your circumstances and of course there'll always be cars with only one person. In certain circumstances car pools make sense. sheff_minx 23-11-2005, 14:18 Originally posted by twichibi Then we would need a car park the size of Rotherham. Why not just bulldoze Rotherham town centre for that very purpose? Would be an improvement on what's already there... (going a bit OTT here i know!!!) :hihi: I drove Mrs Draggle to hospital when she went into labour. Cool as a cucumber I was, too :) Mind you, I wasn't the one in absolute agony gagging for an epidural ;) Carmine 23-11-2005, 14:31 Tried to learn to drive years ago...gave it up as a bad job when I nearly drove under a petrol tanker at the Leppings Lane roundabout. MTheo 23-11-2005, 14:32 taking lessons...with ma dad... going ok.. and its a bit important seens though im going to be a plumber. dont think a bathroom suite will fit on the number 41 bus. :D Rob_1 23-11-2005, 14:34 Originally posted by craigmason why did they make the test at the end so hard would it not be better to do a practical exam Surely you're not saying the theory is difficult? If you've got any common sense it's straightforward! IMO anyone who fails 3 tests, either practical or theory shouldn't be allowed to drive. Joanl 23-11-2005, 14:42 Could'nt wait to be 17 to get my provisional license...took my test 10 years later, failed, didn't try again. Now I would'nt even want to drive. I don't even like it as a passenger except on the bus or taxi...Too many arrogant and self important people behind the wheels these days. Joanl Litha 23-11-2005, 14:45 i cant i failed my test twice then my theory run out so i never bothered again that was years ago, but the kids n hubby keep pesterin me so maybe ill start again  carcrash 23-11-2005, 14:51 why did they make the test at the end so hard would it not be better to do a practical exam Isn't the driving test the practical exam? or am I been stupid here Bouncy 23-11-2005, 15:06 I had lessons and hated them. Now can't drive for medical reasons and to be honest it's a relief not to hear constant sarky remarks about not being able to. I have to admit though that I'm not dependant on the car, my other half takes the car to work and it doesn't bother me in the slightest getting the bus into town or walking somewhere. It's just nice knowing it's sat there and I can hop in and drive myself somewhere if I need to. Joanna 23-11-2005, 18:38 I only bothered to learn to drive as everytime I went to a job interview, the first question they asked was "can you drive?" Like having a car always makes you 100% reliable? My old car was a lemon. The jobs I applied for were nothing to do with the driving industry, anyway, owning a car can be an advantage especially in this cold weather. I never thought I would pass as I had no confidence but I did and glad I took my test now. sarcastic 23-11-2005, 18:57 I took lessons passed my theory applied for my test and i had a Small stroke! So all that money i wasted on it oh well. sheff_minx 23-11-2005, 19:22 Originally posted by PhilMurray hey i live in Rotherham ....where would i go?? If you live and work in the same city and your job doesn't involve travel then you can live perfectly well without a car. Cars usually make people very lazy. There's one woman in my office who drives 400 yards to the sandwich shop every lunchtime. nick2 24-11-2005, 17:36 I can't drive (a car, I have driven a tractor), I've never needed to so I've never learnt. melthebell 24-11-2005, 17:47 i cant drive .......might have to learn now tho, buses are terrible round these parts, bloody arriva ive never had a passport either :) or done the lottery, or use my mobile phone, i dont even give the number out ive never voted, or put a bet on :P fox20thc 24-11-2005, 18:07 Originally posted by melthebell i cant drive .......might have to learn now tho, buses are terrible round these parts, bloody arriva ive never had a passport either :) or done the lottery, or use my mobile phone, i dont even give the number out ive never voted, or put a bet on :P Snap.. don't drive, don't own a passport or do the lottery. limpetboy 24-11-2005, 18:30 Can't drive, wouldn't mind learning but not really fussed either way. I can walk pretty much anywhere I need to get to regularly and there is a decent (if a little overpriced at times) public transport infrastructure when I can't walk there (or I'm too lazy to). madowl 24-11-2005, 18:45 Originally posted by PhilMurray any one here who cant drive.........and is proud of it..............like me.
