View Full Version : Cutlers Hotel Feedback
Jonnymango 21-11-2005, 11:54 PM Has anybody stayed in the Cutler's hotel on Mulberry St in town (hilariously describes as "Theatreland" on their website")?
We need to spend a couple of nights in a hotel in town next year, and this place seemed a good bet. Has anybody heard owt good or bad about the place?
antisocial 22-11-2005, 12:05 AM Know they should be going through a refurbishment at the moment and have just got a new manager.
No horror stories please it's where we're meant to be having our wedding do!!!!!!
Jonnymango 22-11-2005, 12:15 AM Funny you should mention that. It's actually our wedding arrangements I'm looking into as well. We're looking to have the "do" somewhere else, but are planning to crash somewhere in town.
I'm not looking for horror stories - just the truth!
Geezer 22-11-2005, 01:39 AM I spent a night at the cutlers a couple of years ago (so might not be relevant now) and it was poor, room was tiny, poorly equipped and the staff were rude.
Although I got a half bottle of champers and some choccies on the bed. :)
Novotel or Ibis is your best bet, or on a budget try the Bristol.
(aviod the Grosvenor, stayed twice, bathroom was filthy food poor and staff couldn't give a flying....)
anne_shirley 22-11-2005, 07:16 PM You may want to have a look at this website for user reviews of Cutlers Hotel (even if they might be not relevant as is being refurbished). I usually find their reviews useful when planning a travel :)

angel_b 22-11-2005, 08:42 PM I had my wedding reception at the Cutlers Hotel and to be honest, I was disappointed. When we went to look at it, we thought it a bit odd that it had lights dimmed at ten in the morning. Looking back at the wedding pictures we now understand - the place was filthy. The photo of me and my husband cutting our cake is marred by huge black scuff marks on the wall behind us!
A refurbishment is definitely called for as the whole hotel seemed quite tatty on reflection, but if Mac is still working there he will bend over backwards to help you out with your event.
antisocial 22-11-2005, 10:55 PM This is what we are worried about. We have now had to deal with 3 different people. The first manager promised us a grand refurbishment and a wedding just as we wanted ( a bit different from the usual thing).
We have since had to deal with a assistant manager and a new manger who to be honest is just fobbing us off at the moment and will not tell us if the original arrangements we made will be stuck too.
They've said we can go in and see it after the refurbishment and talk about it then. At the moent I'm all for looking for somewhere else but my other half is trying to keep me calm. The whole point was that we could have everything in one central place and it was reasonable for what we were promised....I'll let you know how it goes....
Jonnymango 23-11-2005, 01:40 PM Thanks for the feedback people.
Antisocial - I hope that all goes well with your wedding do.
Hi Thought I would add my coments, these aer based not from my own experience, but of both my fiance and my brother.
My fiance was on a hen weekend with friends in Sheffield (July 05), friends from around the country came for the weekend, on the friday afternoon they all arrived at the cutlers, checked in and went to their rooms, within an hour of being at the hotel, they were on their mobiles looking for alternative accomodation.
Apparently the rooms were dirty, not all rooms had curtains, wallpaper was peeling off, and towles in the bathroom had not been changed, amongst other things.
My brother used to work at the hotel, apparently all of the meals were fried or micreowaved, and everything bought in pre cooked, he said the kitchens were filthy, as was the hotel ion general.
Hope I have not upset peples plans, but best you know now rather than later.
antisocial 23-11-2005, 06:55 PM Just to add Jonnym...
Just looked at the web site and it appears to have had a make over/update, so it looks like the refurbishment has gone ahead. Web site looks much more professional and modern.
Meant to be in town for drink with friends tomorrow, so we're going to have a quick nose around and see whats happening...
I'll let you know what we find out.
antisocial 26-11-2005, 10:24 AM Well we had a quick look yesterday and they are definately having a refurb....well there's a skip outside full of dodgy old light fittings and stuff anyway. Didn't have a chance to go inside...
Going to give them a fortnight to finish then arrange a look around and meeting with the manager.
If you are still interested then JonnyM. I can let you know whats going on.
Jonnymango 26-11-2005, 12:02 PM Cheers for the update Anti. At least it seems that they are doing the place up
I'd appreciate it if you let me know how ot goes when you meet the manager. Keep me posted.
SlinkyMinky 26-11-2005, 02:29 PM Hi,
I had a good look at it earlier in the year for a company meeting venue and overnight stay. I was not very impressed as it seemed very out of date and tired.
Its a great shame as I spend a lot of time in quality hotels up and down the country and what strikes me is that Sheffield is lacking in what I would call, 'art house' or 'contemporary' style hotels. In fact we have none. I had to book into the Hilton, which is by far the best for Sheffield. Its in a fantastic location (epecially in the summer) on the quay side and even though its been open about 7 years, looks clean, well looked after and welcoming.
With all the development going on in Sheffield, I would like to see a high quality, independent 'style' hotel. Come on lets compete with Nottingham, Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester.
Sam
