Look at history, there have been a few extremist right- wing parties that have come to power from the seeds of racial hatred.

Well if they did it might be the last free election we have in the UK. Thats the thing with extremist parties of either left or right. Doesn't take them long to stamp out political opposition.

The secret state - the intelligence services have tended to work like this since the outset and probably still do.

In terms of state bureaucracy and officials then you might be right about ensuring the stability of the system.

However, I do feel that you've missed the point somewhat. It was precisely this, the protection of the system and status quo, the rule of law and order, etc. etc., particularly in an era of instability and potential left-wing insurgency, that led to large parts of the civil service, police and wider state personnel in Germany essentially acquiescing in the emergence and consolidation of the Nazi state.

As for the BNP, they are a joke, a party consisting of many racist thugs albeit posturing under a frail veneer of respectibility. However, this doesn't mean they should be ignored. As results in parts of Sheffield have shown, a party with an horrendous ideology and paper-thin policies can do frighteningly well if there is disillusionment with a political system and alienation from mainstream politics. Afterall, many thought the Nazi Party were a joke, even in the turmultuous and polarised context of post First World War German politics.
