Why do people feel the need to burn out cars?

Someone dumped one near where I live and burned it out this afternoon. I thought this was usually done at night? Have things changed or are the thieves getting even more stupid?

Someones pride and joy now charcoal !

Torching a stolen car serves to remove all traces of the previous occupants, the ones who stole it.

Personally I think that it's a shame that police only chase stolen vehicles with some reluctance, as I'd much prefer stolen cars to burn with the last occupants still inside them...

Well not only does it get rid of evidence but they find it fun.

A couple of lads up stocksbridge decided to burn a car and and they were having a right laugh, watching it burn and throwing peices of wood onto it.

I didnt stick around too long so i went home but i thought it was pathetic.

Not only does car burning remove most traces of fingerprints etc..

Often TWOCers assume that the owners will get a new car from their third party FIRE and theft insurance if the car is burned out.
This is often true, but sometimes people with cheap cars insure third party only which means they get nothing.

Also often if a stolen car is recovered, the vehicle is most of the time, never the same again, because of the damage done by the thieving scum. Who might have cut loads of wires in the ignition to get it started, or driven it across fields at speed. Often annoying faults only come to light months later after the insurance is done and dusted.

Hmmm... don't know if I feel better for that or not.

I just thought that usually this sort of thing happens at night not early afternoon on a Sunday when the field is usually full of kids football teams.

:rant: :rant: :loopy: :rant: :rant: WE have had 3 cars set on fire this year on the field at the rear of us this year, not only do i find it stupid and thoughtless i also cant belive how stupid the kids are who abuse the poor firemen who have to come out and deal with the fire...:loopy:

The scrotes that nicked my brother's car were so thick that they even managed to screw-up torching the thing...which was lucky for him!:rant:
