Well I think that you should especailly if you shop at Morrisons.

For the last 5 shopping trips I have been overcharged in one way or another.

This has taken the form of BOGOF offers not registering on the receipt, being charged for one type of apples when I had bought another (double the price) and today I was overcharged to the effect of £3.28p.

Is this incompetence of the till staff or as it happens so often is it a deliberate effort to raise Morrisons profits :suspect: ?

I followed a couple through the checkouts at Tesco and they were charged around £4 over the top on one item of fresh root ginger.

They hadn't noticed it until I told them about it in the car park as we were both side by side loading our shopping. I bet they check in future though.

i check my reciepts especially in morrisons!

once there was a new sauce on offer and we bought one of each flavour to try them, they should have been 69p and on the reciept we were charged full price for them.
i took it straight to the service desk andgot the money refunded, a few weeks later the sauces were stil advertised at the knock down price and i bought another and once again the price was wrong!!!

I give my receipts a cursory check in Tesco, Asda, etc. but if I have occassion to go to Morissons (e.g. especially good BOGOF) then I check my receipt and sell by dates VERY carefully. Morissons is the only supermarket that I've bought food from that's already mouldy in the tin and yet still within sell by.

I think the last time I went there Findus Crispy Pancakes were on 2 for a quid or something amazing, so worth the risk :)

Morrisons have done this for years with the BOGOFs, I always check my receipts from them.

They blame the BOGOFF thing on computer errors ie not being put in the tills properly.

The other week at Asda I bought a reduced item and it didn't scan through as reduced, they refunded the item and gave me £2 on a gift card.

I always check mine when we get home, and to date I've had to ring

Morrisons
Safeway
Co-Op
Iceland
Wilkinsons
Safeway
Tesco

Probably more :suspect:

If we returned to a situation where wages were docked for doing this to customers, perhaps somebody, somewhere would pay a bit more attention to what they were doing?

Generally speaking yes. I have also been undercharged, by Morrisons, and others.
Not staff incompetence, but computer error when offers do not register. Just get on the phone, be polite and positive, not aggressive, they'll be only to happy to refund. Or so I've found.

I only check if its a few bit and bobs. I remember using a supermarket (on the moor) for one item and they tried to over charge me by over a fiver by the scanning equipment. I only use this store for the odd bit but i check everything there now.

Tesco, I believe, have a policy that if you are mis-charged, you can have a refund of the full amount you paid for the item. and keep the item for free.

But come on, anyone can make the odd mistake.

As long as it's easily sorted out, which it usually is, then there's no real problem.

What they need is more training.

I agree the mistakes shouldn't have been made in the first place but I think docking wages when they're already on the bare minimum is a bit harsh.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS check. So far Morrisons at Meadowhead have only made one mistake.

I used to shop at Sainsburys on Archer and week after week the receipt was wrong. I sometimes think it's deliberate as it's always on BOGOFS or 3 for the price of 2 items.

I wonder how many people realise when they get home but then can't be bothered to go back.

On the whole I must say I forget to check my receipts. I've never known them get it wrong at M&S before though.

edit --- if I don't check them how do I know though??? On average I have noticed that 1 bag of shopping at M&S = £10.

I don't often check the receipt unless it sounds way-off, i can usualy estimate what it's going to be, well close anyhow, in fact i don't very often look at the prices while i'm shopping for groceries as i seem to get the same boring things every week, can't wait to get home and get them put away, thats the worst part of shopping, rotating stuff in the cupboards once you get home.

I was once over-charged by £2 on a pair of trousers there.

Tesco's have sometimes missed the BOGOFs, but I kind of hope they will so I can get my full refund. :hihi:

Wow! I thought it was just me that had a problem with Morrisons!
I always check my receipt from there.

I frequently get BOGOF offers not being recognized and once I bought 2 lemons, was checking my receipt to find I'd been charged for 42!!!!!!!!

I always check the till receipt........errors do happen and i dont think its anyones fault really - thats the price you pay for modern technology...lol!!
the staff in aldi used to have to remember the prices of everything when i use to go in about 7 years ago....and i never heard anyone complain about a price being wrong.

one thing everyone should check if they pay by switch etc is your bank statement - on more than one occasion i have had to ring the bank and morrisons cos a switch payment has gone out twice!!!!

Since I have very little shame or dignity :heyhey: I am happy to admit this.....
whenever I do a supermarket shop, I mentally keep a running total of every item so that by the time I reach the checkout I know to the penny how much I should be charged, including bogofs, 3 for 2's and the like... if they offer me a different total I always have them check it over, even if its less than I calculated.... sad I know but true...

I do more or less the same. I keep a rough idea in my head of how much each item was and add it up in my head as I'm at the checkout. I'm usually right to within 20p and if I'm not thats when I start checking.

When I have seen people arguing the toss at a checkout they are almost always wrong.

I must admit, I didn't think it's that often such things happen. I don't check my food reciepts for a long time now. I used to as a student though. I don't look at the prices that much any more. :suspect:

Then again, I found I bought something in the sales in Zara this Christmas sales, and had to return to ask for the reduction. The lady gave me a strange look and said that it was supposed to be on full price and that it isn't meant to be a sales item. She gave me a funny look. Only cos it didn't go through their till at all. I told her that, if this is the case, then the whole rack full of 30 odd string vests were ALL labelled wrongly. Cos it wasn't a one off item at all. I went to another store in another city, and it was supposed to be reduced......

I never check my receipts but if there are any errors I would think it's the computer, staff at the till usually don't have the necessary access to make these changes.

I do too. Can't hold a conversation if someone is with me as I'm doing the mental arithmetic in my head. Mine's not so much from incorrect till receipts as fear of being embarassed at the till if I don't have enough cash on me :hihi:

Before you all ask - I take a set amount of cash now and leave the cards at home. This prevents me from going in for a pint of milk and coming out with the food allowance for a small African country...

I've had similar problems at Morrisons at Halfway on numerous occasions. I don't think you can blame the person on the till, its bad managment from the people who are entering the two for one information into the database. Another thing they do is to place a product so as to give the inference that it is on offer when its a different product in its place.

The Tesco on Infirmary Road has a very suspiciously consistent habit of not having their on-the-shelf offers showing up on their till systems.

I would never leave that Tesco without checking my receipt. Never. This over-charging happens too often for it to be accidental, in my opinion.

Morrisons are the worst for this kind of mistake. If you buy 2 of a reduced item
the second item sometimes goes thru at the normal price.

jordanjlb
14-10-2009, 16:17
Twice Ive been overcharged in Wilkinsons when they dont push your items down towards the end of the till after theyve scan them but instead leave them in front of them then they dont know whats been done and whats not. Sometimes its like there in a race to scan them as quickly as possible and then give you dirty looks as you struggle to pack your shopping, pay and move off before the next shopper.
