gswift 15-02-2004, 04:20 AM hello i am a chef who has worked in london and abroad and started in sheffield
would like to know other peoples views on sheffield restaurants to eat out
( i have my own views of course but would like to know about new places to try and your own views!)
i have found other websites to be lacking or a bit out of date!
anybody let me know (esp chefs!)
Babooshka 15-02-2004, 03:15 PM Which restaurant do you work at ? Best of luck at pulling the punters. If it is Tequilla then could you please tell them to turn the music down a notch cos it appears to be annoying everyone.
gswift 15-02-2004, 06:48 PM not the reply i was hoping for!
there must be loads of people with views on restaurants in sheffield, surely!
any chefs belong to forum?
gswift 15-02-2004, 07:27 PM all these views and no reply!?!
Babooshka 15-02-2004, 07:44 PM Actually, if you look down the list at previous threads there has been a long one on restaurants. I dont live there any more so not too sure what is new and happening. Will have a think though and let you know.
gswift 15-02-2004, 07:50 PM sorry i am new to forum as i have just moved back to sheffield!
Babooshka 15-02-2004, 08:00 PM I hear that there is one called Sola which is extremely popular and doing well for itself.
gswift 15-02-2004, 08:03 PM anyone got any views of rafters?
Lickable 16-02-2004, 12:28 PM I love the Sahib indian restaurant on West st, except it lacks a no smoking area, but still the food is excellent.
Pizza express is nice too... although, its a bit too big for comfort if you ask me... and a chain...
nomme 16-02-2004, 12:33 PM The subject of restaurants has been discussed many times before. check ou tthese threads:

MsMuffin 18-02-2004, 12:02 AM Thyme restaurant is supposed to be excellent as is the Old Vicarage.
If you venture further afield the recently refurbished Old Pump at Barlow is a great pub with good food.
The White Hart at Moorwood Moor in South Wingfield (near Alfreton, Derbyshire - heaven forbid!) is the latest tip off I've had from a friend of mine who's a chef. Not tried it yet but we'll get there!
The 111 Club (new jazz club opened in Sheffield) on Arundel Street has a great chef and fab food.
Hope this helps
Wendy
Fantomas 18-02-2004, 01:05 AM I went to Thyme last week and really couldn't fault it. Certainly not cheap but the food and service were superb.
One of the staff even gave up his taxi so that me and my girlfriend could get home in the snow! Made me glad I'd given a decent tip anyway
Thyme's excellent! Rafters is also good, tho' they only do a fixed price three course menu (or did) - would like option of just two courses instead as I'm not a pudding fan.
Wouldn't recommend slammers - only been the once, but service hurried, and table position left a lot to be desired. Other's have raved about it but ....
Meditaranian on Sharrowvale road is probably worth a visit - though opinions may differ on that, but I've always had a good meal there.
Carriages was ok - but wouldn't rate in my top 10 of places I've eaten.
For some excellent pub food then I'd wholly recommend a visit to The Three Merry lads out at lodge moor. Very varied menu.
Have you tried www.sheffschefs.co.uk ? They have some reviews on restaurants etc..
