View Full Version : Worth a Quid?
There seems to be more and more 'Poundland' style shops cropping up all over the place.
But is there actually anything worth buying in them?
Have you found any little gems in these 'All items £1' shops?
*Twinkle* 17-04-2003, 19:32 Nope I haven't found any gems in them at all! Hehe! I remember going in one at Skegness and buying a nail file for a quid, but that was about it! I was half expecting it to snap in two, but it's still in one piece lol!
yes, I think there is useful stuff worth buying in them but it's probably getting there at the right time as they are just stocking up. otherwise all the stock has been picked over and your left with the things nobody wants.
Internetowl 18-04-2003, 20:19 if you can get in and have a good look its surprising just what you can buy for a quid at some of these places :) I was amazed
Please elaborate internetowl. All I have ever found in these shops is Crap Ornaments, Industrial sized pots of Hair Gel and Stationary.
i bought a Dreamcast game once, and i know the poundland in manchester has GBA games!
Internetowl 19-04-2003, 17:25 I've had some useful cd boxes (yellow ones) which worked out a quid for three. Each holds 50 disks (they were ok). I bought some quality ni-cad batteries, lasted for yonks (quid for 4) and some swell gel pens (pack of 6 different colours). I also bought a light for my gameboy which was worth about a fiver at EB along the way, its good for Xmas decorations and diaries (page to view, A4 and hardback)
+ loads of other stuff, take the plunge :) you know you want to and your mother did ;)
Classic Rock 25-04-2003, 10:53 Is it me, or is there a stigma about going in these shops. I feel like I dart in hoping nobody has seen me, have a good rifle round looking at stuff such as Allen keys, wooden spoons, garden gnomes and tea towels, not usually buying anything (tell a lie, I recently bought a box of straws for the pub) and then darting out again hoping nobody saw me, desperately trying to hide the bag that has £1 written all over it.
I've found that sometimes (horror of horrors) you can get things for 99p from other places, when they are £1 in the pound shops!
Some of the stuff is crap or just as cheap elsewhere but there is always hidden bargins lurking if you keep your eyes peeled.
mr craig 23-07-2004, 16:29 My sister always buys loads of plants from these shops when she comes up to visit.
FairyNormal 23-07-2004, 17:11 I go in the pound shops regularly. Amongst my bargains ahve been :-
Dulux gloss paint
Rocky Horror Picture Show interactive game
Bagpuss and Clangers CD Roms (all authentic too as above)
Music CD's for the kids
Hair dye
Printer Paper
I always get my hair stuff, pens and stationary from there along with christmas stuff and lots of kids stocking fillers.
Can't beat it I say!
claiireee 23-07-2004, 17:16 The funniest thing I saw in poundland once was a little outfit for kids where you could actually dress your baby up to look like a packet of MacDonalds fries. Come on now, don't all rush at once.

How much was it?
Shame they don't sell Xbox games for a quid in Poundland, I'd be in there regular, in fact knowing me it'd become like my second home :D
Sometimes it pays to wait for Poundland sales.Aside from watching the checkout staff coping with the 50pences it's an opportunity to buy the family birthday and Xmas gifts.
