My husband answered the door the other night to a guy selling raffle tickets allegedly to help a seriously ill girl in Rotherham (we live in Lodge Moor so he was a long way from home!). He was very surprised my husband had never heard of this child as she's been in The Star "lots of times". Apparently, there's a cure for whatever's wrong with her in the USA but "they won't tell us what it is so they have to take her there". What?????? It all sounded incredibly fishy and my husband refused to buy any tickets. I watched the guy go from the bedroom window and he went off down the road without calling at any neighbour's houses. Very strange. Anyone else had experience of this or has any idea if this child actually exists?

Surely if this was genuine the geeza would have had a copy of the news report to show people who havent heard about it :loopy:
Sounds very dodgy
A phone call to these chaps may just be in order.

Under the House To House CollectionsAct, he should have had ID, and authorisation from the local authority, (IIRC).
I'm not 100% certain, but I'm sure that there should be a charity number, and at least a contact number/address where the charity can be reached for verification.
Next time, tell them that you'll pay directly to the charity, should you choose to support it.

Hi - I had what sounds like the same guy calling at our house a few weeks or maybe a month ago and as I live just 5 mins from Lodgemoor it was probably the same guy
He mentioned to me about a little girl needing treatment and when I said I had not heard of her he seemed annoyed as it was in the newspaper!! I didnt buy any raffle tickets off him and he went.
we have had ALOT of door knockers lately and to be honest I am always very suspicious as they all seem to want money or to sell you something!
Recently we've had this guy, a fish man wanting to sell fish, someone from some local FC and various people just knocking for surveys, etc.
Anyone knocking on your door should have ID which authorises them to do so.....as PT said.
If they dont, you MUST ring the police......they may go to someones door who is vulnerable, or too polite to refuse, and i shudder to think what may happen then.
ring the police........please

that's what these gits are banking on, isn't it?
That they'll hit on someone elderly, someone too "polite" to refuse, or too Intimidated.
