Have you seen this website (http://www.srnc.co.uk/home.html)?

I couldnt find the free trial bit. I looked at this thread as my daughter has a toddler and also is expecting again, and lives with me. But then I remembered the buckets full of smelly nappies soaking, the daily wash etc ... and decided I couldnt bear it again. My kids had real nappies, even though disposables were available. It wasnt much fun, but I do agree with the environmental side. Also, my son was toilet trained a year younger than my grandson. I wonder if this is because with a real nappy a child knows when he is wet after a certain age.

Hi
Just enquire via the link cgksheff gave about any schemes they do in Sheffield (it worked for a friend I told to try). They used to give you 15 prefold nappies, 4 wraps and a roll of flushable liners but I dont know if they still do it.
BTW cloth nappying is brilliant these days as there is a lot of choice and they are suprisingly easy to use and care for. You dont need to soak (I dry pail and find it less smelly actually - did try soaking but yuk - dry pailing is more environmentally friendly too). I also only need to wash about twice a week too - modern washing machines are fab I remember my Mum having to boil nappies in a big pot on the stove for my siblings (Im 34 so it wasnt that long ago really);) Both my babies have been cloth nappied and neither of them have had nappy rash (well thats a lie they did when I used disposibles actually).

You are correct. I see no mention of a free trial. It may be worth calling the contact number to ask if any help is available.
Just guessing, though. If there is any help available it would be through the SureStart Areas.
Pampers (or whatever) are so good now that they take all moisture away from the skin and infants need extra encouragement to use the potty/toilet (as opposed to relief from wet discomfort).
It really means putting up with 'accidents' while the child is Pamper-free within the home.
Why do boys take longer to get out of nappies/pampers than girls???
I have lived in a place(s) where we disposed of our own refuse (no dustbin service). We soon learned how pampers are indestructible!!! and would even prevent a fire getting going to burn the other stuff.
The active content is the same crystal/gel that is used as a moisture retainer in hanging baskets etc. It looks like a dry powder but then absorbs something like 10 time its volume of liquid.
A used pamper is really like a mass of hydrated silica gel.

Thanks Lisa, Im not so old that I didnt have an automatic washer and dryer when my kids were little! I bought 3 dozen nappies when I was pregnant, two dozen Harringtons Gold (the best then) and a dozen Zorbit. They did my two kids then my friend bought them off me. They were still snowy white as I used to put them on boil wash, and I still have one of them, 23 years later. I got through lots of plastic pants and nappy liners though, and my electricity bill reflected the cost of using the dryer in winter.
I have emailed the contact on the real nappy site and we will see if I get a sample pack for my daughter. When I mentioned it to her, she screwed her nose up and said "Washing". But I do all the washing so dont know what she is on about!
A friend of ours makes peeweez nappies
www.peeweezrecycled.wahmall.co.uk
they're fantastic.
We mainly use these for our 1 year old lad, but still use 'nature boy' disposables when we are out and about as they aren't as bad for the environment as the main brands (less gel). You can get these from Sainsburys or Waitrose and are about the same price.
The Real Nappy Campaign has loads of information
www.srnc.co.uk/index.asp
Thanks for all your replies, I might email them and see what they say, As baby not due till may but im hoping to plan ahead and get it all sorted as my little lad will be just under 2,So im hoping he will of started potty training,
Will email them and let you know, thanks for all the help.
BTW Surestart had no idea when i asked them about the real nappy campaign,
Angie
