Walked along the Don from Load Hog to Weedon St again this morning & some of the lovely mature Willows that overhang the river have been adorned with HUGE yellow spray painted X's.

It's either a completely illiterate graffitti chav or they're possibly for the chop - which would be dreadfull!

Anybody Know??? :(

Hopefully they arent marked up for complete axing, perhaps they just need cutting back to prevent causing any health and safety issues on the pathway, it could be as daft as that.

Just guessing Don, but there is a fair chance that the trees will have to be pruned to allow the free flow of flood water during the winter months.

Its the red cross of death that denotes the tree will be coming down entirely.

The yellow cross may mean an overhang or limb coming off.

If you're really concerned I think Nick Sellwood is still the council's trees and woodlands officer and it would be on his say so that trees would be cut down.

Cheers everyone - I also got a pm saying that when the tree's in Clunber get marked with yellow X's it means they're for ''treatment'' - so hopefully these beauties will not be disappearing from the riverside.

You never did tell us how you managed to get a river named after you.

I thought it was because you overflow when to much liquid is pushed into you ;)

The river's quite clean these days - there's all sorts of wildlife thriving there now, which is why I've changed my route to work to walk past every day & watch for a while.

Very peacefull & relaxing

I really shouldn't have made that statement as I haven't been down to the Don for years. Although the River Loxley is a lot cleaner than it used to be and I walk that every weekend

Actually, there has appeared - since the last rains - a raft made of a pallatt & 4 tyres, a C02 fire extinguisher & a blue calor gas cylinder for portable heaters.
(Kirky might want to absail down the wall & retrieve it for his new heater actually).
