know what females and males are allowed to where in public around the hotel you can wear near enough what u want but if we go into the town ive been told you have to wear long skirts/trousers and long sleeved tops
thanks in advance
In public women should keep legs and arms covered. I don't know about Dubai, but in some areas of some Arab countries it's also advisable for women to wear some sort of head covering - just a loose scarf'll do (easily kept in a bag or pocket, ready to be whipped out if needed). Less important for men to cover up*, though it'd make sense anyway to avoid sunburn!
Hope this helps and enjoy your holiday...I'm reet jealous!
*in my experience, a bloke wearing shorts won't be considered offensive or anything, just ridiculous!
its not as restrained as you may think however i would not recommend wearing bikinis or skimpy stuff round the city - just 'cos of the attention caused.
round the hotel complex it is fine.
went in April it is excellent. have a nice time.
anything really- just as long as it isn't too revealing as your walking round!! :D
I went last year with my gf.....amazing place. We found that eating out at night was fairly formal......you tend to eat in 5 star plus hotels so flip flops and shorts arn't really the done thing. It's not like schlepping down to a nice Greek taverna straight from the beech and spending the night there. So although the hotels are utterly fantastic we found that 'dressing up' everynight sometimes be be a chore. As for daytime, as other people have said really.......we thought that womens bare skin on display would be frowned upon......not in the least!! They are (and have to be for the tourism), fairly 'westernised' in this sense.
Where are you staying at??
If you would like any of our "you must see's"....or "be careful of that"....... just let me know.
Don't want to bore you with our experiences if you want to go 'off piste' and find out for yourself.
I'm sure you will have a fantastic time :)

In Dubai it is traditional for young women to either micro-skirts and a very low cut top. For more formal occasions a pair of very tight hot pants may be substituted for the skirt.

You mean he can't wear his Blades away kit? :hihi:
Be careful. I've never been but my Mum has just come back this week and although they were staying in Dubai, they might have gone to the next region (not sure what they're called out there) and went on a beach where they were quickley approached by a police/authority vehicle and reprimanded for showing their arms!!
Not surprised the locals wre staring at them laid on the beach in bikinis!!! Had to get dressed and go to the next region where it was allowed.
Can't you look at a holiday web site for recommendations or even a Dubai info page?
Diggy - your parents may been there during Ramadan, covering up is stricter during this period.
Abu Dhabi would be the next place.
Just wrap an old bed sheet round yourself and stick your grannies tea cosy on your head and you should blend nicely in with the surroundings.
