I dont think they should be banned. Severely punished, but not banned. I doubt England would have been banned for the same thing either, as I have seen english scenes like this before and they havent ended up in a ban, but we will never know now.

Neil Warnock has revealed that he witnessed first hand the amazing events and controversy that surrounded Turkey's World Cup play-off with Switzerland on Wednesday evening.

The Blades boss was in Istanbul to check out a couple of potential targets ahead of the January transfer window when mayhem broke out after the Turks failed to qualify for next year's World Cup Finals.

"It was a real eye opener," Warnock revealed. "It was a fantastic game but I've never seen an atmosphere like it in my whole life. It wasn't real, you'd never get anything like that in England. I've seriously never witnessed a couple of hours like it in my career."

Despite winning the game 4-2, Turkey lost on away goals to the Swiss, who confirmed their place in the World Cup next summer. It was after the final whistle that the violent scenes were witnessed between the players, whilst the Turkish fans also vented their displeasure.

Warnock refused to identify the targets he was watching in the fixture, again keeping his cards close to his chest: "I went to look at a few players, we have to look to keep every angle covered."

1 they have consistantly threatened, murdered, thrown missiles, intimidated opposition fans at international and club level.

2. Ive never seen an English player run from the pitch and boot an opposition player from behind in the crown jewels. so hard he had to go to hospital.

we'd have been so banned from international football by now if it was us. Consensus from people I know is they wont get banned because Turkey is a Muslim country and the world being what it is at the moment.

I agree, although it was a Swiss player who kicked out first. He kicked one of the Turkish trainers. Although I do not condone his action, it was probably down to provocation why he did that.

The Swiss team had to play under very intimidating conditions. As soon as the final whistle blew they knew they had to get off the pitch. That should not be allowed to happen that a team fears for their own safety just because they have won!

When the Swiss team landed in Turkey they were stranded on the tarmac for a couple of hours because the baggage handlers wouldn't unload their luggage. Their team coach was then pelted with missiles as it left the airport.

I was hoping the Swiss would keep their nerve and I am very relieved that Turkey won't be taking part in next years finals.

Not so, there is now footage of the coach kicking out at the Swiss player first - seems Turkish TV omitted it on the first footage release.

Have to say it was a unique moment in football, but if you had to pick a team to be involved.....

BUT I was in Istanbul for the Champions League final, and I've never received such a warm welcome for a foreign away game. We were treated like kings by one and all.

The "football mentallity" is something I have never understood.
The animosity between players, the incessant chanting of insults between supporters tells me that something is wrong with the sport. Sport should be fun, a pleasure to enjoy and relaxing. Football is none of these.
The only good thing about football is we know where all the idiots are on a Saturday.
