View Full Version : Charity Speed Dating - would you take part?
geckoqueen 17-11-2005, 10:45 PM I am looking into the possiblity of running a charity speed dating event in December, or maybe in the New Year, and am basically trying to find out how much interest there would be and how much money I could raise. Please answer the poll.
Any constructive suggestions are welcome as it'll be my first time
geckoqueen 19-11-2005, 10:36 AM Bumped for a good cause :)
I really need some suggestions/comments/advice as well as the votes if I am going to make this a success (or at least see whether its worth doing).
Thanks
goldenfleece 19-11-2005, 11:22 AM Could be good...what venue did you have in mind?
geckoqueen 19-11-2005, 11:33 AM Its not confirmed yet but the one I have in mind is central, has close transport links and I beleive you've been there ;)
Will confirm the venue when I'm sure there's enough interest, we need min. 10 of each sex
limpetboy 19-11-2005, 06:27 PM I sooo thought you meant Charity Speed Dating in a completely different way to this :help:
jooles 19-11-2005, 06:37 PM got many people lined up yet?
geckoqueen 20-11-2005, 04:12 PM No limpet boy, speed dating for a good cause ;)
Jooles, the only responses have been on here. I'll start a proper list once I'm ure there's enough interest to book the venue. Can I pre-book you a place?
hotdogbird 20-11-2005, 05:21 PM sign me up.
geckoqueen 20-11-2005, 06:52 PM Ok, excellent! you have any preferences - prices, location, extras?
Ordinarily I wouldn't touch speed dating with a 10 foot bargepole but seeing as it's for charity I could be persuaded to make an exception just this once :)
geckoqueen 20-11-2005, 08:05 PM Thats great, though hopefully you'll enjoy it too :)
As with my last post have you got any preferences?
hotdogbird 22-11-2005, 08:59 PM my preferences would include members of the opposite sex! haha!
fit young ones at that!
well ok somewhere between the ages of 25 and 40. I'm not fussy.
geckoqueen 23-11-2005, 02:05 AM LOL, think opposit sex comes as standard. No guaruntees on the calibre yet.
I was thinking more along the lines of location, dates/days etc I haven't actually confirmed the charity yet, though do have one in mind
geckoqueen 26-11-2005, 08:22 PM Right... things are starting to take shape... I am in serious talks with a pub but it looks like it'll be a work night and is probably going to be January now. I'll have a proper date as soon as I can, so please speak now with preferences.
Also, I have the fundraiser pack from Cancer Research here. As soon as I have some further details I'll be sending it off to them.
So, some requests:
- attendees/potential attendees please PM me your details
- Is anyone willing to volunteer to help out on the night?
- Can anyone put posters up when I have them? or any thoughts on where to put them?
sallie 26-11-2005, 08:36 PM Hi geckoqueen, i might sound a bit thick, but what is speed dating!!? not heard of it before.
geckoqueen 26-11-2005, 08:44 PM Its basically an event for singles where there's the same number of men and women (in this case between 10 and 15) and they take part in short 3 minutes dates.
It means that you can learn about a person and decide if you like them, but if you don't click then you don't have to sit being polite for an hour or so.
At the end of the 10-15 dates you decide which ones you want to meet again and if they want to meet you we will exhcange your number/email and you can take it from there.
sallie 26-11-2005, 08:52 PM sounds like fun:) like the idea that the date only lasts for 10 minutes !!:) means you can get out of it quickly if you want to:thumbsup: !!
geckoqueen 26-11-2005, 09:03 PM sallie its 3 minutes a date, and don't forget the other bonus; 10 - 15 dates in one night!
sallie 26-11-2005, 09:10 PM cool, 3 minutes, even better!!but do you reckon its possible to work out if you like someone in 3 minutes!!?.
geckoqueen 26-11-2005, 09:18 PM They reckon in job interviews the first 10 seconds are most important as this is when impressions are formed so yeah you probably can.
You can probably answer a lot of important in 3 minutes, the thing is to know whats important to you, e.g. politics, music, hobbies before you go but not to use the time as an interrogation.
Its quite popular, in fact I came up with the idea because my friends and I couldn't find a decent speed dating event when I was single.
hotdogbird 27-11-2005, 04:56 PM hi geckoqueen. I think I may be willing to help out at this event instead of actually taking part.
If you would like to discuss, please pm me
geckoqueen 27-11-2005, 05:03 PM Thank you, I have PM'ed you :D
