I want to start training for a 10k run and know absolutely nothing about running. I need to buy some running shoes, and just wondered if anyone out there can give me some advice.

I am not a "sporty" person at all, I'm an absolute novice, and can't remember the last time i even excercised!!

Thanks xxx:)

Best off going to a running shop and get a proper assessment on which type of trainer is best for you. The best shoe for you can all depend on how you run. The running shop in Atterclidde (can't remember their name) is always a good bet.

I always stick with Adidas Supernova, but that is because I've had that model for 10 years or so now without a problem so why change.

You need a really light trainer, nike made one for running and they took everythin possible off it so it was as light as possible, Puma Sprints arnt too bad or them puma trainers with that have that zig zaggy velcro strap.

But I'm a sprinter, not long dist, so I don't know if the same apply

Cheers everyone. I think the place in attercliffe is called "Keep On Running". I'll try there.

Thanks again xxx

Asics and Saucony are both pretty decent brands of running trainer. Saucony are fairly reasonable too, Asics start at about £60 unless you manage to find some in a sale somewhere.

there's 2 running shops in attercliffe practically opposite each other

- keep on running, and
- accelerate

I really rate stuart at accelerate's gait analysis (where he watches you running on a treadmill)

but they're both good

I think, 5 years later, the OP may have sorted out his running shoes. Sigh.

you would hope so, you'd also hope they hadnt bought basketball shoes as recently suggested!

Up and Running are great and will do a gate assessment. Not the cheapest though but worth the extra for the service.

I strongly recommend this. You will pay from around £70 upwards for a pair of running shoes, depending on your gait and whether you're doing on or off road.
