View Full Version : What is it about underwear...

A girl in my office has just informed me she spent £140 on a bra and pants set. I think this is ridiculous.

Why do women consider their pants to be so important?
What is the most you've ever spent on pants?

Which type of girls pants do boys find the most appealing?

What do girls think about boys pants?

It's a whole big pants thing. Discuss...

I bought my wife a set for Christmas which cost me around £40 and I thought that was a lot. But I reckon that is going a bit OTT.

Actually, if a girl is discussing her underwear with you, you might be in there, so to speak.

Well as Phane will confirm Im having difficulty with bras!!! and my other difficulty is I cant be doing with thongs, feels like you've got detal floss up your ass! So why is it you can only get twin set bra and thong! Grrrrrr!
£140 for em tho!?! Bit steep! Most Ive spent is about £30 on a very nice bra and shorties set!
As for boys pants....not Y-fronts! anything but those! A nice simple boxer! altho I am aware some boys prefer to go commando as they see pants as a decadence close to heresy!!! :D :D :D
will stop lowering this already quite low tone :P

Anybody could be 'in there'. Most of the rest of the office have already been 'in there', if they aren't currently 'in there'.

So you can see why she might be the sort of girl who would openly discuss her pants.

What are shorties?

Surely they are worn on the outside - not as underwear.

Shorties are very small pants...cut low on the hips with a medium leg, bit like bikini briefs

For me, thongs have no appeal. You might as well not bother wearing them. Also, viewed from the back, the thong-wearer appears to be hanging from their gusset. Not attractive in my book.

I'm a boxers person myself. Much more comfy.

Yep, the plumber I work with has the stereotypical 'plumbers bum'. God knows how it happens cos mine never manage to slip down that far when I'm on my knees cutting, soldering or whatever.

I was in my local in Bristol once and an overweight guy was sat on a tall stool with his bum hanging over the back and his pants were literally halfway down his bum so you could almost see crack-hair. YUK!!!

edit: Yes, that's what I meant, jockeys. You're right, the loose cotton boxers do tend to be a bit unsecure.

Never, never, never, NEVER where breifs. Those marks and sparks, stripy, looks like your mum bought them for you pants do NOTHING for you boys. You might think that they 'enhance' your assets but they just squidge and squash your bits and show things off that are better left to the imagination, if you know what i mean. The brief is the male equivilant of the thong.

As you can tell i am quite passionate about this subject as i have in the past been subjected to strippy pants that should only ever be seen on an 8 year old, (for the record the owner was in fact 26!)

(can someone tell me how to get all those cool face things; i'm quite new to this game!!)

Thongs on girls are great providing they have a great a*se.

I personally find "briefs" more comfortable than boxers but it's finding ones with strong enough elastic to cope with the weight that I find difficult. ;)

I would like to have one of my original questions answered.

Boys seem to just wear functional pants that are there to do a job. They are not meant to be seen day to day, so blokes seem to put very little effort into their pants.

Yet girls will spend an absolute fortune, coordinating their underwear and matching it to their clothes.
I can understand the benefits of a good bra, as Mosh pointed out, it seem to be quite neccessary to keep things under control.

But posh pants? Why? You've got nothing to keep in check down their. Why spend £30 on a piece of dental floss for your crack?

It's beyond me how anyone could be excited by their own pants.

Perhaps you could also post a photo of her in the said attire so we can comment from a more informed point of view?

I like to buy nice underwear and as I've got a little bit older I try more to wear matching bras and knickers.

For some strange reason it makes me feel much better to know that I'm wearing lovely matching underwear.

I too like those little shortie things, they hid a multitude of sins mainly cellulite and stretchmarks! :)

I have myself only just discovered the joys of matching sets and i have to say it hurt handing over £50! At the end of the day which would you prefer to see coming at you of an evening, a girl in an old black bra and non-matching white knickers or a girl in a lacey set that seems to do all the right things in all the right places. Men are very much stimulated by the visual and believe me if girls could achieve the same results with old market undies they might but as it is we are forced to splash out if we want to get your undivided attention!

I'd notice a nice girl watever pant/bra combo she had on. Un-matching, cheap undies suggest that she'd be a girl who cant be bothered with such trivial things, and would probably be quite laid back and cool.

And, let's face it, all you women have to do to get a man's undivided attention is to be a woman. Posh pants or not, it makes no difference.

I have to say you are a pleasent exception rather than the rule. Men are so easily distracted by football/rugby/computer games/ porn (deleat as appropriate). Sometimes we have to battle with up to 15 men or even an imaginary woman with unveasably large breats (i am refering to Lara of course). Its a constant battle that we face on a day to day basis!

So what if a girl wants to spend her wages on nice undies, nothing wrong with that if it makes her feel good. Only like a man spending loads on a flashy car or bike.

Nice undies means
feel good factor
Confidence
and Bothered about her appearance

My opinions on undies

Me I generally have tight boxer types, they give more support where it is needed, usually Calvins or Jockeys. Got them in a whole mixture of colours. What colours are good girls?

As for Girls
I do like nice undies on a woman especially black, thongs are good if a nice butt to go in them. Thongs hanging out allover the place on big butts is a right turn off.
Shorties - cute and look a bit sporty, again I think you need a nice tight butt to look good in them.

Anybody remember those green PE knickers?

Well if a girl I was interested in felt her pants were one of her highest priorities, i'd quickly lose interest.

Remember, I know a dizzy blonde 'office bike' who just spent over £100 on a matching set of underwear. Has she got nothing more important to worry about? I mean, this was the first thing she told me. Like it was so important to her that she needed to make sure I knew this before I started my working day.

I just see a big empty head. How can I respect that?

I love La Senza underwear! It's so classy and nice and non-tacky!

Infact, Chris has bought me underwear for valentine's YAY!

The most I've ever spent on a bra and thong set was about £30... It's a bit dear, especially for a student like myself, but La Senza is the only place that does my size... I think M&S do, but lets not go there!!!

I love boxer shorts on blokes... I bought Chris some Calvin Kleins and it looks so nice when I see them poking over the top of his jeans! :D

Knicker categories are as follows:

1. SEXY nights (usually some of M&S's best when you know there is more than just you who will see them).

2. PRETTY days (when you know that someone else will see you in them but it isn't necessarily going to end up in a sexy night.

3. NORMALLY and NICE. Just everyday decent grundies.

4. WORK. Usually just ordinary plain underwear, in good nic but nothing flash.

5. HOME ALONE. The lower end of the underwear market when you can't be bothered to make the effort with your clothes or underwear. Usually going a bit grey.

6. SLOBBING. The elastic has gone and they are all grey and over-washed but you aren't even contemplating leaving the house so does it really matter?

Has anyone else got 6 undie drawers?

Well I know I'm wierd, but I don't find thongs at all attractive, in fact when i see one they put me off the woman, whether she's pretty or not. Nor do I like G Strings or any of the other crappy stuff that is relentlessly marketed toward the 'sexy modern woman'. I find it all horribly unappealing.

It does scare me quite a lot.

In a world where women in clubs have taken to sucking on lollipops this all confuses me.

Why do kids want to be adults and adults want to be kids? I have enough trouble just being myself to try and re-invent who i am or try and alter others perceptions of me.

This world is crazy, and we don't even understand why, now that is really scary.

I don't have a problem with adults wearing thongs, although I don't personally find them at all attractive, but if a shop is selling thongs for 8-year-olds then I think the shop is acting very irresponsibly. :(

Indeed. What I find weird is women sucking dummys and lollys in clubs and going in school uniform, and men finding this attractive. Why is it attractive to simulate a child? This I find most worrying. Also the way in which some men talk about being "the daddy" when it comes to sex - do these men fantasise about their daughters or something?? There are some things I don't think I will ever understand but I do know I find them disturbing.

The problem isn't with kids wanting to be adults... the problem is with shops selling "sexy" underwear for young children to wear. What is the shop trying to promote???

I think the tight boxer type things are called 'jockeys'.
They are the best type of, erm - pant - I reckon, as they keep things in check!

Thongs - yuck.
Girls in shorties - Mmmmmmmmmmmmm!

For the guys, healthwise, it's better to let your juice hang loose and keep 'em cool. Hence the reason they are on the outside in the first place.

As for ladies undies, tasteful matching undies make one feel so special. Just the knowledge what you are wearing can put the edge on an evening, or even an afternoon (!) out if you have time on your hands.

Thongs; the jury's out on that one. Have worn them lots in the past, could NOT cope with them right now. But then again...

Plus, in nice underwear, you know if you get knocked over, nobody is going to heave when they have to cut your trousers off :hihi:

This thread is cracking me up. Esp the bit about the numerous divided sections of a knickers drawer ! lol.... It's a bit excessive.

Well, I think about 140 is about right for some designer sets. The Q is, would you spend this much on like 2 piece of clothing which u probably won't wear for very long ? HMMM....

To me, it's logical that women would want to wear nice clothing, and that she feels comfortable in them. Whether it's clothes or lingerie. Though I don't quite get the women who would want to wear it to please her man, and that she doesn't necessarily like it. There's a big difference in rationale. Sometimes I see those lacy sets in the markets or whatever (you know the kind, the dark red and black ones), and I think to myself... won't the woman get stuck with so many clips and connectors and things ? What if she gets herself stuck in one ? :D !

Too silly for me, I'm sorry.

A girl in my office has just informed me she spent £140 on a bra and pants set. I think this is ridiculous...
Only just noticed this thread. I know it's old but... £140!!! Let me just say that again; £140!!! Dear. God. I don't spend that much on undies in an entire year.

Have to agree, £140 is ridiculous. That's nearly three week's shopping in this house!

If I did spend that much, I'd have to be sure to get my money's worth out of it though :hihi:

Oops! Wore one today... where did that come from?

I like to buy my wife undies - although not as much as £140 - I've spent (regularly) upto £100 in House or Frazer of Debenhams on desingner undies like Janet Reager, Kylie, floozy Jasper conran, etc. IMO you cant spend enough money on undies for a woman.

On a different note, is it just me or ... knee high boots!!! What is that all about? And girls you know what your'e doing to us blokes when you wear those boots.

What are the advanatages / disadvantages of the various types of Mens/boys underwear?
Is there a time when boys should change into grown-up styles?
Do women prefer a certain style on men?

Anybody could be 'in there'. Most of the rest of the office have already been 'in there', if they aren't currently 'in there'.

So you can see why she might be the sort of girl who would openly discuss her pants.

Never look a gift horse in the mouth ;)

If someone needs to brag about a pants set costing that much they're obviously leaving a lot to be desired in the personality stakes.

If they don't feel the need they probably buy primark/cheap pants all the way, and have a lot more important things to do than making sure their bits are royally dressed, like having a life!

But are there any differences between boxers, and y-fronts, or newer boxer-briefs? or is it just personal choice? Do women have any views on types of male underwear?

I wear Jockeys, I think they're called. Nice and comfy, keeps everything under control. Cant cope with boxers. Everything's a bit loose.

You know it my friend. Yep, gangly swing is not a good thing. Men need the equivalent of a bra for doon thar.

I can't speak for all women, but personally I don't care, it's how they're filled that counts.:hihi:

Actually I like the cross between the boxer and y-front, which they call trunks.

Mine tend to me from each end the scale but knowhere in the middle and certainly nothing that costs anything near £140!! I tend to get my day to day knickers and bras from cheapo shops like Primark (although I like to get nice bra's from Debenhams etc), but if i'm wanting to treat fella I like a little splurge at Ann Summers once in a while! The thing is, Primark knickers are so cheap but also very comfertable and pretty!

As a student I shared a flat with a couple of lads. When I arrived home they would often shout through from the living room.

"Hi Foxy, wanna drink?"
"Yeh. That would be great. Would you like to get me a coffee and take my knickers off?"
"OK".
" Now can you give them a wash and put them back where you found them?":hihi::hihi:
