I heard that Takapuna was closed down for a week because of serving after hours. It that true?

Whether it's true or not depends quite a bit on your source.

Who did you hear it from?

I've never heard of this happening with magistrates before. I doubt if it'll be true.

Premises tend to close if they are changing hands, owners have left or the licensee has left. Never heard of a pub being fined with a week's closure before.

There's something in today's Telegraph about them not serving someone with a designer top on as it symbolised Football Hooliganism.

Another bar operator. To paraphrase, apparently....

The police went in, plain clothes, asked for a drink after midnight, got one, and "thank you very much, we're the Police and we're withholding your licence".

Result, closed for a week, reopened with a new licencee and a stiff warning.

The hassle we had with the owners parking in front of our carpark gate.
They were a law unto themselves and thought they could do what they liked.
If you ask me then it was a good cop.

I can confirm that is most definately not true, having just returned from Takapuna (not working, just boozing:thumbsup: ).

Takapuna has a drinks licence to serve till 12.15am (as does reflex 80's bar across the road).
So which ever operator told you that, I'd be interested to know.

That's very true. However it's not that they wouldn't be served, they wouldn't get in period.

Lacosste, Burberry, Henry Lloyd, Stone Island, Rockport are all on the NO NO list for Takapuna. Which seems very harsh given the cost of some of these items (I own Rockports and Stone Island clothes), however they are associated with footy hooligans and as such.... no entry.

I know all this cos I have worked there from time to time when required.

However the trouble reckord speaks for itself, no major incidents in the last 6 months (and that was just a brawl between a couple of townies). It may seem harsh with the clothes, but the venue is one of the safest in town.

It's not been closed at all (in my day job I work two doors down) and have been in there for lunch on more than one occasion.

Db as you say most thge clothes mentioned are expensive i also have a pair of Rockports.
You say this has a connection with football hooliganism but in which way.
Do fooball hooligans wear expensive gear or something.

I suspect that the owner is married to someone highly connected to Sheffield Wednesday and is making a point about football hooligans rather than addressing the real hooligans they ban anyone wearing that gear.

You know him more than me, any truth in what i say.

LOL.... not in anyway at all CR.

The owner first of all isn't married nor is the owner a football fan as it happens.
The clothes on the no entry list relate to both sets of Sheffield football rivals and as such are not allowed in the club.

It's not just us either, Reflex across the way also outlaw certain items of clothing (i.e. Burberry, Lacoste, Rockport etc).
Football firms wear these types of clothes (around sheffield anyway - other firms sport other brands) and as such, banning them from entry makes it fair for all concerned and is a guaranteed way (as guaranteed as it can get really) that the trouble elements can't get in.

Hooded sweatshirts, sportswear (unless fashion type) are also banned. Like I said before, the proof is in the pudding and with no trouble... it's a working system.

I sympathise with those who purchase this expensive gear, but Takapuna cannot have rules for one and different for the rest.
It's the same with large groups of lads, Takapuna don't allow entry to groups of lads in a group larger than 3. Unless it' a mixed clientel group (i.e. 4 lads & 4 lasses).

I realise the harshness of these club rules, but you have to blame the element of trouble causers in town, rather than the clubs who don't want that kind of trouble. It's not just Takapuna that enforce these rules, a lot of places in town now do the same - Takapuna just followed suit.

Designer gear isn't banned, it's just certain brands that are.

Why ask a question on a 3 year old thread?
