View Full Version : Staff parking at Crystal Peaks
I hear a rumour that Crystal Peaks are to stop staff employed there at retail outlets within the Mall from parking on the complex? Does this mean that a few hundred staff cars will be then forced onto the residential areas around the Shopping precinct. Maybe a case of "Not In My Backyard' attitude to the situation from Crystal Peaks Managment. How on earth did they manage to get planning permission to extend the Mall even further when they clearly haven't addressed the existing staff parking problem?
transporter 16-11-2005, 10:49 its true, yesterday they were all in damons car park. if they did the same with the builders @ the moment then perhaps we could get parked.
official parking in the car parks is only 4 hours anyway - so part timers shouldn't have a problem.
what happens when Two Jags introduces taxation on parking spaces at work - bet the staff won't want the spaces then.

My son tells me that it is going down to two hours for staff. Admittedly there is an adequate transport system, but is it safe to be walking around the bus stations tram stops during darkness. Besides the fact that there is already a major problem with parking in residential areas around Waterthorpe/Sothall this can only accelerate the issue. I bet Damons are chuffed their car park is full and nobody in the restaurant!
As a customer, I have stopped going to Crystal Peaks because the car parking situation is stupid now. I suspect the retailers are seeing their profits dip as customers go elsewhere. The old folk who go on the bus will be ok, but the people who spend most money go by car. I suspect Morrisons down the road at Halfway are rubbing their hands together seeing alll the Sainsburys customers changing supermarket.
I believe the new Sainsburys store will have parking on the roof. However they may not need it by then because there will be no customers left.

Totally agree Andy, they deserve all they get. The parking problem has been a nightmare for years, they do nothing to alleviate it. Ochre Dike lane on a weekday is now a single track road due to the parking spilling out into residential areas. I've sent a letter to the star about the situation, I suggest your forward your comments to:-

have to agree, however half of this traffic are the cheapskates who won't pay for park & ride. all the side roads adjacent to the tram stops are all choked.

correct , transporter! maybe double yellow lines on Ochre Dike and resident only parking on the side roads are the answer!
Car parking at Crystal Peaks is a sad joke. For years I have visited several shops there for the equivalent of a dozen bags full. Not Super Tram stuff is it ? Where are the Planners brains. Even a humble shopper like me has known for years that MORE parking space is needed ---NOT less. Come on, lets have five multi story car-parks---PLEASE. By the way ,my wife and I seldom visit Crystal Peaks now. Inconvenient.
Shopping centres often have bans on staff parking. when i worked at a large shopping centre in the midlands (where i grew up) we weren't supposed to park in the car park. However we just used to make sure security didn't see our uniforms then it was ok.
Crystal peaks is a nightmare with parking. Also how come they put up digital parking space indicators but have not started using them? They have been there at least 6 months:loopy:
I used to work in the main shopping centre in Peterborough, and we weren't allowed to deter customers by hogging the parking spaces all day. It's just common sense - especially when the christmas temps and the shoppers are competing for space.
If the customers can't shop - you haven't got a job
alchemist 18-11-2005, 07:54 curious, wasnt the reason stated by sainsburys for closing thier meadowhall store that the parking was better at crystal peaks??
i cant see what your problem is then bearing in mind meadowhall can park well over 10,000 vehicles (anyone know the exact figure?) and the parking is better at crystal peaks then wheres the problem? surely there is plenty of space??
:D

No, that wasn't the reason.
alchemist 18-11-2005, 09:15 i know it wasnt the real reason, but it was one of the stated reasons that came from sainsburys

c peaks have plenty of parking - if you dont mind walking.
if you want to park next to the doors you have not got a prayer. always packe with people who have loads of time to saunter across the car park, or who could do with the exercise or worse ride a bloody chariot so don't need to be next to the door.
hope my father in law is reading this.
Jackmaster_J 18-11-2005, 09:35 I agree parking at crystal peaks at weekend is a problem, but i cant understand why people still park in the residential areas near by during the week!! I live opposite and and get really angry when i come home and cant park on my own drive because its blocked by cars which are often parked there all day!!

'cos they're tight b'stards and catch the tram to sheffield without using the park & ride. this has got worse since 4 hour parking was introduced.
Jackmaster_J 18-11-2005, 09:44 Aghh i never thought about that!! I've not lived there long!!
HazyJane 18-11-2005, 09:58 So what are they doing with the staff car park at the top entrance?
CP is our nearest shopping centre, but the only bus we have from our estate is one that runs once an hour between 9 and about 3 or 4, week days only.
Since the building work started, I'm sick of going to down there and having problems parking, and that's during the week, not the weekends. Unless you get down there first thing, I've found the best time to go is around 3pm, when presumably people have gone off to pick up their kids from school.

At the end of the day if you pay your car tax etc why should'nt you park on a public highway?

Fair comment but it does not give people the right to block the entrance to your drive way and on 2 occasions even park on it!!!

we dont want this debate really - but paying car tax does not give you the right to park on a public highway. it gives you the right to drive a vejicle on the road. parking of cars is at the discretion of the police - legally.
check with them or the highway code if u wanna query it.
however everyone takes it as a right which it is not.
i was answering the previous question as to why the roads around the peaks were parked up when spaces are available on the retail site, i wasn't complaining.
We used to be able to park near where the paper / glass bins used to be, but now this is closed off to the Public . Does anyone know who parks there now.?
Even our Dr's carpark is full now at CPs, I see people parking there and going to do thier shopping and patients can not park

Surely If staff cant park there then no staff, therefore no one to serve the customers?
Are the shops having mass staff sleep overs then during Christmas to avoid parking issues?

They're the staff car parks I referred to in my post above.
SatanInHeels 18-11-2005, 13:34 yeah, we got a letter about it at work.. apparently it is a 40quid fine for parking in the carparks now. didnt know there was a staff car park. knew there was one for managers though?
on our letter it said they were going to have a meeting with some of the managers from the centre.. from like 10 big shops or something to try and arange somewhere for staff to park.. dont know how that went though X
CP Management and the Council seem to lack any common sense at all.
Surely, a shopping centre attracts more car travelling people than local shops - yes?
Car travelling customers need somewhere to park - yes?
When year on year the car parks become completely full and grid-locked, reducing the amount of car-parking in order to build bigger stores is going to have an adverse effect - yes?
Or am I from a different planet?
Oooh and just to make things worse and really stick the boot in, why not close down a Car Boot Sale, a few miles away that only opens on Sundays and is used by CAR DRIVERS who don't want to go to Crystal Peaks???? Common sense isn't even on the radar, back handers, bribes, gentle leaning-on in exchange for (what?) seems much more likely.
I think some sort of investigation into the running of Crystal Peaks, the management and their links with the Council should be made, because it STINKS.

ah right, I presumed they were for any staff to park in.

It's the staff who arrive first in the morning, so if there was no parking restriction at all, none of the shoppers would be able to park anywhere near the place all day.
Admittedly where I worked there was an NCP longstay carpark not too far away
Isn't it time that field behind where the recycling used to be was turned into carpark?
Thanks HazyJane,
Forgive my being thick and not grasping the situation I'm still confused are they the ones staff cannot use now?

.. I didnt know they existed at all until we went out from work last saturday as i dont drive yet.. but one of the guys who came out said that he had been given a fob for the managers car park cause he complained about his car getting bumped in the customer car parks.. no other staff is allowed to park in there as they cant get in apparently.
I've just received a CP leaflet which says that a new roof-top car park (Green Upper) "will be ready for use in late November" - don't know how big it is! I always manage to find a space on the side near the petrol station but I do usually go at quieter times of day.
The staff car park near the doctors is for the staff that have been designated fobs. The store my wife works in has two fobs and the manager and assistant manager has these, but when they are not in work they don't give them someone else.If you go past in the middle of the day the car park is empty.:loopy:
I no quite a few people who park there cars at Crystal Peaks and catch the tram into town,
the staff car parks are the two across from the doctors , all staff have been told by crystal peaks to park on surrounding roads something i personally do not think is fair to residents . Contact local stores rather than crystal peaks as its the owners of crystal peaks not the management who has decided this.the stores want names etc of people its affecting rumour has it two ladies on their day off from sainsburys went shopping and got fined 40 pound ,staff are not allowed to park in crystal peaks at all now,i hardly have my car so it doesnt affect me that much but it is affecting loads of others
There is plenty of space in the Drake House retail park but people are to lazy to walk acroos the road...including me!
SatanInHeels 20-11-2005, 07:07 staff are now apparently getting notices on their cars for parking up while they do their shopping!!! just cause they have got peoples registrations from about 3 years ago! (if anyone who has bought a car off someone who used to work in sainsburys at that time.. dont be surprised if ya get a ticket) seeing as they dont have all the new staffs registrations too they are planning on going round the carparks and the surrounding roads and taking registrations or summat.... :suspect:
Some stores have already stopped staff parking there. My friend works in a shop there and she isn''t allowed to park there if she is working and never has done.
I have parked several times recently in the car park closest to The Milestone pub, and the same cars are parked there in a row every time. I first noticed my friends car who works in the market, then that the surrounding cars were always the same.
How can they enforce the £40 tickets ,is it a council run thing?
they have parking attendants, well they did until the work started anyway. they used to note registration numbers & where u were parked etc.
they should never have been allowed to extend Crystal Peaks until the parking issue has been sorted out! Its fine to say Drakehouse is an alternative, but the gates joining CP and Drakehouse are locked after 5pm. Besides that, its unsafe for females to be walking around there on there own at night anyway.

What I meant is how can they force someone to pay the fine.If they tow your car then obviously you'd have to pay to get it back and same with clamping but with a ticket I don't see how they can make you pay.

why is it unsafe, there are no reports of anything happening.
the same could be said of staff at KFC ubtil 12.30am etc.

I live within walking distance of CP and there are always gangs of youths hanging about drinking and taking drugs. The police seem to be powerless to do anything about it!
i dont think it will be too long before crystal peaks, meadowhall etc start to charge for parking these places have had their boom times and are no way as busy as they used to be so will start to charge to recoup costs the internet is the way forward and also the smaller local shops where service and customers come first not big bank balances:clap:

I find it strange Willman that you don't find gangs of youths drinking and taking drugs in public areas intimidating, whilst having to walk through the middle of them to go about your business.
i dont approve of it , but then again i disapprove of illegal drug taking fullstop.
however i find a group of youths with a six pack no more intimadating than i do a bunch of 40 year olds leaving the WMC after a sunday lunchtime sssion.
