Sheffields schools have recived £100m of goverment money in an attempt to save their comprehensive buildings. Sheffield is one of four cities to recive a share of £450m, no schools have been confirmed on who will recive a share of the cash but it's belived High storrs,Newfield, Myrtle springs, Bradfield, Silverdale and Yewlands are expected to benefit the most, the money will be used for building projects on the schools. The money will also be used to build two specialist schools and will play a part in maintaining the projects over the years.

What do you think of this?
Is it too late for some schools, where would you like to see the money spent?

Schools are OK - some parents are crap.

Sorry I didn't make it clear but it's just a grant for the buildings themselves and not for extra teachers or things like that.

Edit:Have added the info to clear up any misunderstandings.

As far as I am aware the government were offering £140m if the city council could match the amount. The Director of Education was on the radio earlier saying that they couldn't find the match so they won't get this funding.

I did not know that.
Very interesting. Lets see what comes of it.

Well i have been told recently by more than one person that Silverdale is to be rebuilt, but it is not possible to do while still in use (on a different bit of the same site, as too swampy) as they will have to knock it down to rebuild it.
So the suggestions are to move Silverdale to the Bannerdale centre and merge it with Abbeydale Grange.
The other thing said was that Bannerdale has 3 yrs left before it is comdemmed, so it has been suggested that it is rebuilt for Silverdale to move to and then they knock down Silverdale and sell the land there to developers.
Interesting but not comfirmed. I do know for sure that the staff at Bannerdale are in the process of all being moved out to different places at the moment, so something is happening.
Anyway i thought i would share these snippets told to me and cheer up T020 as moving Silverdale in with Abbeydale Grange should be very interesting.

As far as I am aware, High Storrs and Meadowhead are due for a total makeover.

Might pay the wages of all the teachers on long term sickness or the ones suffering from 'stress'. If they cant deal with kids why dont they go and sweep the streets.

Because the soft laws, and crappy parents won't let the teachers deal with the kids. (and the kids know this)

Just to clarify, a parent who can't control their two kids cos they're out of control gets a lot of sympathy from some quarters, but a teacher who can't control thirty kids gets the same reaction as shown by you.
