Thanks pedro1 15-11-2005, 12:15 my next door neighbour keeps them in his garden much to the delight of my cats:P Sandeh 15-11-2005, 18:48 You can keep 6 chickens and 2 rabbits on an allotment. (I've recently read the Allotment Strategy produced by Sheffield City Council and this was the only thing that stuck - knew it would come in handy at some stage though!) burny 15-11-2005, 20:55 Hi, I had an allotment there for 4 years as somewhere to keep my chickens. Have three letters to say NO you cannot keep chickens on there. The only birds allowed at Meersbrook were and still are (to my knowledge) pigeons. Shame really! miniminch 15-11-2005, 20:59 Originally posted by burny Hi, I had an allotment there for 4 years as somewhere to keep my chickens. Makes sense, if all of meersbrook gets bird flu and dies; who will teach the kids?:| cgksheff 15-11-2005, 21:14 The Council 'Allotment Guide' (http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/out--about/parks-woodlands--countryside/allotments) says: Livestock Tenants wishing to keep hens and rabbits must first request permission from the Allotment Section. If permission is granted then tidy fencing at a suitable height must be provided to stop the livestock escaping. And suitable shelter for their welfare. Livestock must not become a health risk or nuisance to tenants and residents living nearby. Your tenancy agreement sets out the conditions and restrictions on keeping livestock. But you are also advised to abide by other animal welfare guidance and regulations. Certainly not guaranteed then! burny 15-11-2005, 21:15 ROTFLMAO! Oh my... (composing ones self)... okay.... Yeah the SCC were very unhelpful and told me that you used to be able to keep chickens but sorry not at Meersbrook. I think you can at other sites though. :P Floe 16-11-2005, 08:35 What about in gardens? We are a built up residential area and our neighbour has 6 hens, a rabbit, a cat, a dog and...a goat! pedro1 16-11-2005, 08:45 I was going to ask the same thing flo. Our neighbour has 6 chickens and at the moment they`re no trouble but i`ve been told that when it gets warm they can smell a fair bit. antisocial 16-11-2005, 09:28 Thanks for that.... Regularly hear chickens when we are up at the allotment, could be a house that backs onto it I suppose. antisocial 16-11-2005, 17:19 Have been up to the allotment today, and have searched out the source of the clucking and it is definitely on the allotment site. Not only are the a few chickens but a cockeral as well. So the dilemma is do we: - 1) Snitch on the person with chickens already there...write to council 'they have chickens why can't I?' 2) Get them anyway and keep quiet...2 chickens won't make that much noise 3)Write without mentioning chickens already there and risk being turned down mmmmm........... also anyone know a good breed for beginners |
