Try using Firefox (www.mozilla.org) as your main browser pete. It has a built in popup blocker :)

yeah but it a pain in the arse on forums when you try to open another window becaues that is how the forum links outside the site or something similar.

I personally prefer to remove the pop ups off my pc in the first place

The popups are only on your PC because of spyware or messenger though. Firefox doesn't support activeX and that goes a long way to stopping spyware.

I get 0 popups on my computers unless i break something.

Firefox also works better for me than any other browser when using forums

and ad aware removes the spyware...nulling the point of extra browsers to block em?

Personal preferences I guess...but I would rather not have the spyware on in the first place.

That is what i'm saying though...

I know i can run adaware/spybot etc right now and they won't find any spyware and that is because spyware cannot install itself through Firefox.

You run Adaware and it removes spyware that is already on your system.

Think carefully before using Ad aware. A few back doors in the program mean it can be susceptable to virus's and worms as it has to continually download updates.

A similar thing happens with antivirus programs that need updating regularly. Seems some bright sparks went and made the antivirus program download a virus into itself and then infected loads of other files without realising it was a virus.

Spyware can come in many forms and disguises so chances are you are going to cop for the odd item or two. Use a top line firewall; a good anti-cirus program; a block-up stopper and whoever supplies your antivirus program probably does an additional spyware addon for a few extra notes.

If you are on broadband some of the larger companies - such as telewest - are providing the best package I have seen so far on a computer. And the whole bundle is free to users of cable broadband. There are a few bugs still to be ironed out before it becomes 100% but they are working on it and so far - no problems with the program.

Have you disabled Windows Messenger pete?

Go to control panel> add/remove programs> On the left you will see 'Add/Remove Windows Components'> Click on that, scroll down the list and uncheck Windows Messenger.

Windows Messenger is a well known target for adware.
