Your best bet would be to get yourself down to Patriot Comics just past castle market towards the Wicker.

if you can stand the fanboydom then ask about what games they have running.

If thats a little too horrendous for you (like it was me) you could either join the university roleplaying society (I think it's called NODSoc) or if you're a fan of Games Workshop, you might want to go down there and ask around, they can probably direct you along to Sheffield Roleplaying group, run by my mates but it's invite only, they prefer for their members to be invited along by existign members.

The Uni Society might cost you but the rest are free and Sheffield Roleplay group meet in a pub, so it isn't really serious gaming, just light hearted fun each week,

My gaming group partially dissolved when I left for Uni but I still have the contact details of the others who were in the group if you want to PM me, I'll ask them if it's ok to pass them along.

You have Wilf. Of course, whenever you are in town you are more than welcome to game with us. We are trying to recruit a couple more vampire players to get the chronicle James was running back on track. You know who disappointed us yet again, and it was at a crucial time in the game. If we can get a few mature, reliable gamers, we should have another cracking chronicle.

Am happy to play/run CoC games whenever, although probably fortnightly not weekly. PM if interested please.

I play in a group on Wednesday night, but it's been long established and we're a little used to our own company (not in a dodgy way) so it is a bit cliquey.

BUT...due to attrition and general life getting in the way we're down to 4 players and a ref (ether me or one other).

We don't want fanboys, we don't play Vampire and we don't have every DnD book ever (or any to be exact). We have so far played RQ, Cthulhu, Champions and Magic the gathering (of which a roleplaying variant was under construction).

We often hack rules around for games to change the game experience (A stat-less superhero game - rules for anyone who wants a look, a d10 variant of Cthulhu and a rehash of the RQ rules to include legendary swordplay) so we dont want anyone who's not flexible to new ideas.

Games run for short or long stretches (varies) and we could do with suitable players to let us play if one or two people can't make the wednesday!

If you think you're normal enough (and don't think we sound wierd...so a happy middle ground then) respond and we'll chat.

I've a Cthulhu up and coming that should ignore large portions of game rules and twist mythos on its head and it would be nice to find some solid guys (or girls if we're lucky) to fit into a very established group.

Anyway, thanks for reading even though this sounds like "single white male seeks partners for roleplaying adventures!!!!"

2 Even more trouble bullying people into turning up regularly
3 To kill those players who know every rule, page number and paragraph.."don't annoy me, go be a lawyer or something!"

It should not be this difficult should it? There are people here who clearly want to get into a game and there are people here who want them in their games. What is the problem? But, what really bothers me sometimes is the way people will take the people they're gaming with for granted - like not bothering to show up and then not bothering to explain why. It never fails to amaze me.

Its just rudeness really. I've played with some marvelous people and put alot of effort into the games I run (some of it actually paying off to), but to have someone turn up once then just not answer emails, texts, answerphone messages!!!!

If you don't like the game, have the guts to tell someone you're not coming!!

I would like to thank those members of this forum who replied to my call for gamers, and who carried out additional talks in the pm. In some cases it worked out in others not so much. Still, my faith in Sheffield roleplayers is somewhat restored. The group now has successfully grown to 4-6 members, from which we should be able to get a workable weekly quorum. If there is anyone still interested in joining in on-going V:tM game set in Sheffield, please make contact (and we will try to work you in). Otherwise, we are no longer drastic for gamers, so thank you all.

hi after years of wanting to play DnD, i have finally plucked up the courage to do something about it. i am a total novice and at 38 people might think i've already gone senile but i think what the hell you only live once. so i was wondering if there were any like minded people out there who would be interested in starting a group maybe once a fornight to let there imaginations run wild

kevanos, if no-one responds in regards to DnD, why not consider Vampire the Masquerade? Novice is the best time to start the game, and you would be joining a group with players older than yourself - me at least. We plan to start a DnD campaign sometime in the future too, and some gamers who we thought were going to join let us down.

kevanos, well, in the sense that DnD and VtM are both excellent role playing games, use dice and necessitate a certain level of acting ability they are similar. DnD involves a certain level of cooperation across a wide spectrum of different class-ability combinations whereas Vampire (while not necessarily discouraging same) is a game of more personalized horror in which the newly created Vampire must somehow come to terms with his new 'life'.

This is why being an inexperienced gamer makes Vampire an interesting game - you can more easily picture yourself in the situation and role-play your character's night by night reactions to new experiences. We play a more political based game (rather than combat based) so you would need to consider how you would support not only your new found habits (drinking of blood, superior attitudes, disregard for the humans) but also building up a base of power and support for the centuries to come. I would say that Vampire, more often than not, deals with adult themes.

Furnace is a tabletop roleplaying game convention in Sheffield UK, taking place on the weekend of 28/29th October 2006 at The Garrison Hotel. There simply aren't enough 'northern' gaming conventions out there, so I thought it best to create one! Myself and my other half also wish to join/start an RPG group. We'd be up for any system, but have played DnD, Warhammer Fantasy, the new LOTR roleplaying game (heavily adapted), cyberpunk, shadowrun... He has played a few more as well, such as Paranoia and GURPS.
If there is no such group for us to join, or the ones with places have a problem with g.i.r.l.s (I'm not casting aspersions here, sorry, but I was turned down by a Leeds group for this reason when I lived there!), then is anyone up for making a group with us? My other half will run it.
Might be good for newbies (18+ though) who want to join a non-scary group. In fact, in my experience, the less the players know the rules the better *lol*:D

I thought I would send this one out to the group rather than through PMs with the select few and see what happens. Our small rpg group (based largely in Sheffield) is still playing V:tM and is about to start a (fairly long-termed) V:DA game. But, one week in three we will be playing DnD (3rd or 3.5 edition or mixture thereof) as one of the guys can't now make that one session and is not bothered about DnD anyway. In any case, this means that we have need for one or two new players (experience preferred but not necessary). If there is anyone interested in what will be, in essence, a monthly game, please reply with a PM and any questions will (in theory) be answered.

kevanos, saw your reply. This is the situation as it stands. We have two games currently in process. One is DnD 3.5 the other is Vampire Dark Ages - each about 4 sessions in (so not too much trouble to add another player). We have just agreed to switch between the two games at monthly intervals. You would, of course, be welcome for both games (although this would have to be agreed by all members first). At the moment, and this is only speculation, the guy running the DnD game couldn't attend last session and has yet to make his intensions for the next DnD session clear. DoctorB may have more to say on these issues, as he could also run the DnD game (it is his created world we use). In any case, if you are genuinely interested (we've had a couple time-wasters already), please take this to PMs with either myself or DoctorB.

What's the likleyhood of me getting into a game when I've never played an RPG game before? None of my friends are willing to play with me, so my beginners D&D set has remained unused!!!

I'd be interested in an RPG group, if it's friendly. I've never played RPG before, my interest comes from PC games which use DandD system, and have played the odd tabletop game in the past. If you didn't mind a beginner joining in, then I'd be up for it. Can't offer complete commitment cos got job with late shifts sometimes.

We play on sundays usualy from 3pm to 8:30pm allthough sometimes we start at 1pm.

We dont mind beginners, Actually thats the best time to start playing when you know nothing. Currently we play 4 weeks of d&d and then 4 weeks of vampire the dark ages (will move on to Modern day at some point but Im the gm and its planned to span on for years, it all depends how the characters advance)

We currently have 4 in our group but there is still room for a 5th. Pm me if your interested

My group and I are about to embark on another Dark Ages vampire campaign. We have one on the go already, along with a Mage game and a Sheffield by night post-gehenna game. Sadly, we may have just lost our fourth man (who ran a DnD game for a short while). Here is a brief description of a new on-line forum game set in WW's Dark Ages:

The prince of Chichester has either been killed off or abandoned the city, leaving the realm vulnerable to its continental enemies at a senstitive time. It is 1435 and England has just lost the Hundred Years' War; the boy king, Henry VI, has just lost his uncle-regent; the vampire Lord, Mithras, has lost the initiative amongst the cainite leaders of Europe and has demanded, if nothing else, Chichester have a new, loyal, prince to shore up southern defences. The clan-barons have gathered to promote the interests of their favourites. While the high clans debate the virtues of this or that candidate, the low clans seek either to forward their own interests or disrupt the entire process.
