View Full Version : Sky & Telewest New channels.
gina1970 14-11-2005, 17:51 I noticed in my tv guide that there is now a Sky 2 and a Sky 3.
Both channels are shown to be on Sky (obviously ) and cable but there is no sign of them on Telewest Cable. Any ideas?
Plain Talker 14-11-2005, 18:01 Sky do not permit some of their channels to be broadcast on cable. (eg sky mix or whatever it's called)
I am on cable, and I can't get certain other channels that sky supplies, such as the biography channel.
It's a marketting ploy, by sky, they think along the lines of "if we offer channel Z and customers want channel Z, the n cable customers will come to us, because this is the only place they'll get that channel".
I think, that the monopolies commission ought to have a say on that matter. It's bad enough how much sky/ cable charge us, AND that is for channels that are mostly dross ( yes "men and motors", I'm looking in YOUR direction!).

littleboo 14-11-2005, 18:02 Telewest have to pay Sky money to use their channels, If Telewest don't pay...Telewest don't get , also Sky keeps some of it's channel for itself to gain a better advantage ie more channels than competing company's
There was a thing last year where Nickelodeon put the prices right up, Telewest said that they wouldn't pay the increase. Sky was lapping int up and started putting adverts that they were the only company with Nickelodeon. Telewest had a blank screen for a few months until they managed to negotiate a deal with Nick.
Its just a matter of competition, Sky will always win as they are a much larger organisation
isn't sky 3 the old sky travel?
edit: sky travel has become sky 3 on freeview only.
HazyJane 14-11-2005, 18:33 Sky 2 is what used to be Sky Mix, renamed with the launch of Sky 3. Sky 3 is the first Sky channel to be on Freeview, showing programmes that have already been on Sky 1.

FairyNormal 14-11-2005, 19:37 I've just cancelled my Sky subscription as I think it's a very poor service with constant interruptions. I'm going back to Telewest and saving about £5 a month in doing so. I'll also get their new Teleport service for free. Does anyone have this and is it any good?
the woman at Sky tried to convinve me that my £15.50 a month subscription will go up dramatically after 3 months as I am a new customer. What a load of rubbish. Desperate to keep their customers or what?

i had same arrogant service from sky.
if you phone to cancel, they deliberately leave you waiting ages....then they do a salespitch on you, VERY hard sell....while YOU pay for THEM (national rate phonecall) to try and get more money from you!
what's more, if sky's gear fails (mine was always breaking down) they always asked for an EXTRA £65 off you, rather than offer to fix it!
then they'd change their murdoch-mind, say they'd fix it for free, after you'd spent AGES trying to cancel.
they p... me off!
so i've switched to telewest and they are really good service, and they NEVER try to sell you rubbish you don't want!

Well we can't get cable here in Stannington so we're stuck with Sky... Not that that's a problem, Sky Digital rocks!
Zinger549 16-11-2005, 19:54 NTL all the way
Internetowl 17-11-2005, 07:28 my telewest box was on 890 this am - so must mean the channels have changed again - I'll have a look later to see what new goodies we've got or what we've lost.
Does anyone know if Telewest are getting ITV4 anytime soon? It's on Sky, NTL and Freeview, but no sign on Telewest. I've rung them and they've just said they are "still in negotiations".
I want to see Letterman and Larry Sanders!
