View Full Version : Cars with blue LED's
Can anyone tell me what the deal is with sticking a pair of blue LED's to the front of a car is? Over the last few weeks they seem to have mulitplied dramatically.
Do they serve any purpose? Is it something to signify your membership of some bizarre club? Just curious, that's all....

Daveyboy 12-02-2004, 12:58 welll they make the car go faster……….OBVIOUSLY
garrence 12-02-2004, 14:56 Looks cool to teenagers.
mr craig 12-02-2004, 15:31 Its because the poeple who drive these cars have watched The Fast & The Furious one to many times. They think if they add a few LED's and some stickers to there 1.1 novas then one day they might actually crack 3 figures on the speedo.
Just another 'cruisin' boy racer' trick that they think will make them look cool on the road. They only look cool to like-minded boy racers and young girls who also think they're cool though.
They grow out of it in a few years when they realise they look silly.........and then they'll be taking the p*ss out of young people who do it when they're older (but not definately wiser). :D
They always seem to attract my attention when I'm driving at night. I find them annoying. Just another silly gimmick.
What about chavs that drive around with bright blue lights UNDER their cars, giving the car the effect that its some kind of floating spaceship?
I can't say I've ever come across them.
Seen them once or twice. Bit daft really innit.
What's a 'chav' by the way and where did it come from? I've seen it around the forum a bit but not heard of it anywhere else? Is it a Sheffield term? Just wondering.
Click here for Chav info (http://www.chavscum.co.uk/)
Basically I mean boy racers who go round in baseball caps and pumped up Novas/ Renault 5s/ Saxos, etc, thinking they're 'hard' because they can drive like maniacs in ridiculous looking modified cars.
Did you know it's actually a new Government scheme?
The Home Office has chosen this new method for the public at large to be able to readily identify anti-social plebs.
On the first offence (usually committed by purchasing a 15 year old Nova for £450) coloured lights are fitted at government approved grass verges to the front and occasionally the underside and aerial of the offender’s vehicle.
Some persistent offenders (identified by the Home Office approved Burberry cap) are also forced to emit loud noises from their vehicles as an additional warning. Rumour has it that David Blunkett himself personally devised this audible warning.
Ta for the Chav info. I feel enlightened, yet sickened at the same time. How odd.
fnkysknky 14-02-2004, 14:12 Actually I noticed a huge increase in blue LED's about a year ago while travelling up and down the country every day. The vast majority I saw were on the front of HGV's. Thought it rather strange, not your average scally is it....
Mosherchik 14-02-2004, 14:31 ...but on a similar theme.
Yesterday I saw a car with red LED strip on front in a Knightrider KITT style!
Ahhh nostalgia....didnt know whether to be impressed or repelled, so instead I settled at laughing :loopy:
After looking at chavscum.co.uk I walked around town for a short time today and if you go by the website guidelines for the behaviour of your average Chav, Sheffield is utterly full of them. Surely not all of these cap-wearing, sportswear donned teenies are all chavs?
Help me cos I'm losing faith in our youth element!
Bloody Hell!
Why do Sheffielders whinge and moan so much!
Would the world be a better place if everyone drove around in beige Rovers?
Why do people grow flowers in their gardens?
To make them look nice!
Do they serve any other purpose?
No!
BrainThrust 15-02-2004, 19:14 Actually flowers do have another purpose, it's called 'living'.
but i get your point, we just hate to think of some of the mindless idiots watering down the gene pool.

The difference being - flowers make a garden look nicer. Blue LEDs make a car look worse, and are seen as very 'chavvish'. I think the police should pull over these boy racer idiots as these blue LEDs and under-car lights are a major distraction at night and may lead to accidents.
As it's an offence under the Road Traffic Act, the Police do indeed pull them over. Perhaps what's why there doesn't seem to be as many of them about these days.

Tis fair comment....
Only a minority like them therefore they are sh*t, is that it?
I like cars with blue lights on the roof less!
uncleheed 23-02-2004, 11:21 forget the blue lights, what about the numptys with the wheel trims that keep on turning. Are they the ultimate tack item or what?

Actually i know somebody that hasnt watched either of the fast and furious films, and they drive a cavalier 1.8d, and mr craig whats the point in cracking 3 figures when if you get caught by the police its an instant ban. If people want to take pride in their cars appearance i think its up to them. Obviously you havent got anything better to do with your time than complaining about the supposedly BOY RACERS with blue lights, and what car do you drive?
i dont know what the gimmick is but when i was in wales a set of teenagers left there headlights on for about 3 hours, then left his blue LED's on for the night and in the morning his battery was flat!! nothing cool there!!

LOL :D
I'm sorry but if you get caught doing 100mph on a motoway than you won't get an instant ban, this has happened to people i know and they haven't been banned.Maybe if you were doing around 140-150 mph then you would get an instant ban,and rightly so.
I dont drive at all to be honest, but my flatmate drives a mitsubish 3000GT which is a very quick car. The number of kids in there silly little saxos and corsa, and a lot of them do have these STUPID blue lights on,that try and "race" him when he's out in it is unbelievable. Most of the time they drive like complete idiots, just to try to show how fast there moms car is.

I agree that the boy racers are idiots, but not having a car yourself hardly qualifies you to be ripping them for borrowing their mums car, does it?! Most of these boy racers actually have their own cars and turn them from normal, sensible and practical hatchbacks into ridiculous looking, spacecraft-like, noisy boy racer cars and drive as if no one else was on the road and that the safety of themselves and (more importantly) others is not a concern.

S**t,sorry, i didnt realise i had to own a car to post on this thread. Maybe i could put a car in my avatar, would that make me qualified to to rip in to them???
I know most of these kids own there own car,the comment about it being there moms car was ment to be a joke, you know,ha ha.
I have been to a few cruise's where kids with modded cars hang out and you have to admire a lot of them,Some put a lot of time, effort and money into there car,and 95% are responsible drivers, obviouly you always get a few idiots, but they are very much frowned up on.
It just a number of mainly new drivers who think that with a £5 Halfords gifts voucher they can turn some 12 year old beaten up hatchback in to a maclaren F1 (or a 996) and drive it like he stole it.Is those types of idiots that kill people.
Surely there's a difference between people who have nice cars and people who drive carelessly?

It's prefectly possible to get banned for doing 100mph - it's basically down to the copper who catches you. I know someone who was banned for doing 102mph and another who got off at 110mph..... To say you won't is just bull.
Get clocked doing 140-150mph and you're in deep sh*t being that the fastest coppers have ever clocked someone at is 155mph and that was a bike...

Since then a BMW M3 has been clocked at 155mph. In Scotland, I think.
Maybe I shouldn't mention the time that I went through a Police Speed Trap at 130mph?
Thank goodness for tea breaks :)

Depends what you define 'nice'. Do you mean a nice Merc or Jag? Or do you mean a pumped up hatchback with extra bumpers and blue lights? The latter, more often than not, have an idiotic and careless boy racer driver behind the wheel, and IMO, the cars look far from 'nice'.
