Next up, NY's JAPANTHER & SHELLSHAG shall be performing at The Harley on the 8th of February. In addition, there'll be another three bands playing beforehand, namely: CUSS WORDS, LIARS BEWARE and MACHETE SEASON.
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
JAPANTHER
Japanther is a punk rock band from New York City formed in 2001 by two students at Pratt Institute. The members met in Brooklyn. The band consists of Ian Vanek — who plays drums, cassettes, and sings — and Matt Reilly — who plays bass, a Casio SK-1, and also sings.
Described as a “Performance Galaxy” by Vanity Fair and “Super hard, incredibly fast and overall inspiring” by Thrasher, Japanther has always been a band apart, running the gamut from performance art to punk rock and back again.
Their music is intense, danceable and fun. In Japanther’s near decade of baffling unsuspecting audiences and amassing new fans, the boys have toured Europe, Australia, Mexico, Canada and the US constantly while working in museums on all types of "Art Projects." Synchronized swimmers, illegal shows, marionettes and giant puppets have all been employed successfully again and again, all in an attempt to redefine what bands, groups and gangs can do.
SHELLSHAG
Shellshag is a spastic, minimal, two-piece, rock band spewing the sound and tradition of old punk with the feeling and noise of no wave; their music and live shows are very unpredictable.
These minimalists have a thunderous sound and an innovative approach. It seems that after more than ten years of shredding instruments they have mastered their tools and song writing techniques. Their noisy, pop hooks have catchy phrasing, tune and melody; their noise infiltrates these hooks and words, creating a very ambiguous sound that enhances their image.
LIARS BEWARE
Liars Beware is a Sheffield band, consisting of ex and current members of such bands as The Long Blondes, Navvy and Smokers Die Younger. While still only playing a handful of shows (inc. Rollerpalooza) they have already been lavished with praise and recorded a BBC Radio 6 session. Check out their particularly great cover of Urinals' 'Sex' to get an idea of what to expect.
CUSS WORDS
After their wonderous display of garage rock fuzz and frantic drumming while supporting Action Beat (a previous Small Ideas show), we decided that it would be extremely foolish of us not to invite them back for this one. Sound like Coachwhips, JSBX, Lightning Bolt, good times.
MACHETE SEASON
Made up of our very own Small Ideas members, this bunch of sonic scallywags play a type of music that the kids are calling 'afro-noise'. It's gonna be the new chillwave, seriously.
Followed by a SMALL DECKS after party into the early hours. Bands on from 7pm.

And if that wasn't enough...
A NIGHT OF POST-DUBSTEP & MAD-TRONICS BOMBASTICA
Small Ideas have worked to bring you a night straining with post-dubstep and mad-tronics of the highest order, and are ecstatic to announce the presence of Teebs, one of L.A.’s foremost and glorious beat makers. Starting out with post-dubstep, the night looks set to only get phatter and more hard-hitting, with the inclusion of Future Bass representative V.I.V.E.K and gnarly Parisian techno upstart Blak Nite. Do. Not. Miss.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TEEBS:
In the wake of his debut full-length Ardour dropping on Brainfeeder late last year, L.A.’s ethereal beat-maker Teebs will be stepping up to the decks in the Steel City for the first time. In accordance with the release of his EP with Jeremiah Jae in the same month, be prepared for a near-on spiritual experience as stream after stream of crooked beats and blissed-out keys saturate every headspace in the room. There is always a sense of Teebs acting as a conductor for the soundscapes of some mystical dimension. On the 18th of March, Plug will be that mystical dimension.
V.I.V.E.K:
And if that wasn’t occasion for celebration enough, bass-music rising star V.I.V.E.K is set to follow. Having just released undoubtedly one of the tracks of his career in ‘Talking Shadows’, he looks set to shudder a bass-shaped hole into the present, revealing the bombastic future of what we now know as dubstep.
BLAK NITE:
Harking back to the golden age of Ed Banger records however, whilst delivering only tastier levels of bass, beats, and dark dark heaviness, is London’s Blak Nite. Coming up on the back of 2010’s devastating Hyde EP, this man will satisfy all those looking to be consumed with glitch and sinister atmospherics.
D-WARRIOR:
D-Warrior is very much encapsulated by the post-dubstep Sheffield has played host to on numerous nights over the past few years. Fans of James Blake, Ramadanman and Kode9, watch this space.
