View Full Version : Best estate agents to use in sheffield coops 12-11-2005, 19:34 What are the best estate agents to use in sheffield? meumeu77 12-11-2005, 19:42 it is to buy or rent a house? We had to deal with Blundells and Haybrook lately. Blundells messed us around. Haybrook have been very nice and helpful. We're now buying our first house through them. We're actually glad Blundells messed us around so we don't have to deal with them anymore. Good luck househunting. JA5E 12-11-2005, 21:10 Its a matter of opinion I suppose. We've just bought through Haybrook, but I can't stand them, they're extremely devious and underhanded, but then again, I suppose they all are. Unfortunately, Haybrook have a large share of the market in Sheffield. ukdavvy 12-11-2005, 21:38 Originally posted by coops What are the best estate agents to use in sheffield? May I be the first to suggest none of them :) ?? Seriously My experience of the agents here is perhaps not representative but all of the ones I have dealt with have left a sour taste in the mouth. The local bidding system in particular sucks. I know for a fact that one house I offered on went to another buyer who paid 30k over asking as he thought my offer was that high - when it wasnt. Thats a fact currently going through legal channels so I am not in a position to give more info :) The other issue I have is the blind ignorance to the slow down evident in the rest of the country. The local agents here will all happily tell you the market is buoyant, if youre a first time buyer taking on a flat for 150,000 you may well find yourself saddled with negative equity or else you'll never ever be able to move up to that nice 6 bed house in Ranmoor one day :) But hey to answer youre post and repeat a previous reply tell us your circumstances. If youre selling use any of them, they are all questionable but if youre getting out it doesnt matter. DO consider though that they all offer poor value for money and many hidden extras like VAT and surcharges for adds in the telegraph which make their 1% commission quotes laughable. If youre buying then be very very careful. Cheers d GWP4020 14-11-2005, 12:49 my experience of eadon lockwood riddle was extremely poor last year when I was buying, including refusing to put forward an increased offer (which is illegal) to try and un-gazzump myself (getting gazzumped is apparently not strictly illegal, just unethical, but self-respecting (!) estate agents should not get involved). I lost hundreds of pounds (searches, survey fee, legal costs etc) as a result of losing out on that purchase. thanks ELR. reeds rains dealt with house i eventually bought and were better. they didnt do much but at least they didnt shaft me. until someone actually invents a professional code of conduct or some scheme that imposes real and workable sanctions against unethical and illegal practices, I suspect your experience is likely to be variable at best...and estate agents will no doubt continue to all be tarred with the same brush. discovery 14-11-2005, 13:04 We have moved 3 times and used 3 different agents. I wouldn't recommend any of them. They tend not to keep you informed of whats happening and I would question their integrity some of the time (with good reason from personal experience). When we move again we are considering selling ourselves without an agent as they often do abroad. GWP4020 14-11-2005, 13:13 excellent idea. everyone should abandon estate agents and use the forum/independent property websites! what do estate agents do other than play underhanded games to artificially inflate prices, and publish silly adverts with the most ridiculous and non-descriptive particulars?! eg "only on an internal inspection will you truly be able to appreciate the interior decoration".... You dont say. or "deceptively spacious"... which actually means small but deceptively marketed. |
