My Broadband went off because I had to change my direct debit payments. Wanadoo switched it back on for me - but have now told me that it's not connecting because BT have put a flag on the line!?!
I told BT and they said the flag should have gone last year! but said it would take a full week to remove. It's over a week now but Broadband still isn't on!!
The Wanadoo experts told me to install the modem again - which I've done . . . . nothing.
* On a normal phone, when you pick it up the buzzing is constant.
* On my phone the buzzing is infrequent.
note: Buzzing = the noise you hear so you know the phone is working. Sorry, dont know which other way to put it.

You mean the dialling tone then?

Sorry to hijack this thread but slh73, am puzzling as to what your avatar is
It sounds to me like your line is faulty,
have you tried it with Just a phone, plugged straight into the main socket (no modem or anything)
If this works, then it could be the filter, or if your using one, the extension..
If it is still irregular with just the one phone plugged into the main socket only then contact BT, tell them this story, say the "Dial Tone" is irregular, not constant, and they will (ack) "flag" the line as faulty, and then send out an engineer.
unfortuatly this could take another week or so
(BTW, I used to work on the Other end of the freeserve (now wannadoo) Support line.. so if anyone doubts what im saying, :P )

Its my character from Fable: The Lost Chapters. Look closely and youll see an old bloke with white hair and a beard.
If you've got BT's call minding service installed (Answering machine sort of thing) then the intermittent dialling tone also indicates you have a message waiting.

I thought your title was a clever (ahem) reference to the fact that you're now reduced to dial-up. U'know, like the old cars used to have to have a chap walking in front with a flag?
I'll get mi coat. Tho, to be fair (someone has to be) that IS what I thought you were referring to.......

Ugh, the Wanadoo "experts" are second only in uselessness to AOhell's so called "experts" :loopy:
Seriously we were having connection problems with Wanadoo a few months back and some of their suggestions to fix it were beyond ridiculous IMO... Stuff like moving the computer into the hallway to be closer to the phone line, WTF?! :loopy:

moving the PC to connect the bb to the main socket is a quality idea for tech support - in most cases the customer disconnects the call during that or the checking the filter phase ;)
