View Full Version : Stand up comedy in Sheffield - where to start?
Does anyone know of any comedy clubs or bars in Sheffield that I can try out? . . . I'm wanting to go into stand up comedy and have abit of material already but just want to actually have a go and start up.
It's about 15 to 20 minutes long so far but I just need to gauge some kind of response to my routine and need to know where I could start off.
If anyone has any advice, or knows the best way to go about starting up on this road - please post.
koenigsinger 12-11-2005, 10:21 Toby is probably the one to answer your question, and in fact mine, which is the same effectively, although I think for open mic spots, you've already got more than enough material as you'll generally only get 5 minutes, 10 max.
Cheers Sharpsinger,
Toby . . . . Where art thou?
We put open spots on at The Lescar regularly. 5-7 mins is enough, all you have to do is ask!
Where is the Lescar? . . .

It's on Sharrowvale Road, near the Porter Cottage, at the Hunters Bar end of the road. :)
 Thanks Kristian . . . I'll have the best seats reserved for you when I'm big & famous.

Give Slick a call for info his open mic slots.
mr.blaze 14-11-2005, 16:36 I went a few weeks ago to the Lescar when Toby was unfortunately ill. I must say I had the best night I've had in a long time. It was top ******.:D
think that over the last few weeks at the new Roundhouse which can hold 300 people all seated, all the acts have been of a very good calibre with names like Robin Ince, Justin Moorhouse, Alan Carr, Roger Monkhouse, Toby Foster and Mitch Benn all joining the line up proving that the Last Laugh will give you just that.
Nicholarse 14-11-2005, 19:02 Toby's really good about putting on acts in the Lescar but if it's your first gig I'd suggest trying some stuff in Manchester first and warming up towards the Lescar. The Lescar's a great club but you'd do well to learn your trade a bit first as you'll only get one chance to make an impression there.
There's a place in Manchester called The Frog And Bucket. Perhaps try there?
Also, cut your material from 15-20 minutes of good material down to 5 minutes of truely great material. Really blow 'em away if you can!
Good luck!

liveforever 14-11-2005, 20:36 I know that Takapuna on West Street used to have quite a good stand up night, on a Wednesday I think. Not sure if it's still going though.
