today ive been working in swallowsnest, handsworth,and richmond and in all them area's peoples burglar alarms have been going off for no reason, i don't mean the odd one i mean loads of em,ive just come home for some snap and mine was goin off..spooky or what!

Some go off when there's a power cut.

It's called the alarm chorus.

Extensive research has been carried out in recent years to investigate this phenomena.

Bernard Jinghams initial study (1997) showed that car alarms were not in fact triggered off by would-be thieves, but in fact innocent bystanders and unwary passers-by with those
whistle-for-your-lost-key things in their pockets.

The domino effect would kick in and all the street would be hanging around in the cold in nighties and pyjamas until, eventually, all went quiet.

The same is to be said now, I am afraid , of house alarms. One goes off. The lot goes off.

At least it shuts the cats up at dawn.
