I normally only get out onto the roads on Saturday, but this last ten days or so I've been out with SWMBO quite a lot during the week helping her select a new car and am amazed at the amount of traffic on the roads all through the day. Ecclesall and Penistone roads seem to be a near traffic jam all through the day. So little wonder they get gridlocked during the rush hour.
I'd expect a lot of commercial vehicles but these are vastly outnumbered by single occupancy cars at times when I thought people would be at work.
Have people stopped going to work ? Do they work from their cars ? Perhaps they're just taking an hour off to do a bit of shopping or go to the dentist or the hairdressers ? Or perhaps half the population now work nights ?
Morrisons at Hillsboro' I thought would be quiet at 11am on a Thursday morning. Wrong !!
I'm just a bit mystified by this - perhaps I should get out more :P

They are all queueing to admire the council road works and the finished traffic management schemes (traffic disruption schemes).

The queues round the entrance to Morrisone has more to do with the traffic lights than the weight of traffic in the Barracks most of the time. There is a queue here at almost all times 7am- midnight.
I live very close and so have to pass these lights when heading out northbound (bearing in mind that I can't go through the tram gate at Hillsborough Corner or turn right there either. This means that everybody needing to go north on Penistone Road gets stuck there, where it would be much more appropriate to have a filter lane for the Barracks built. It's sometimes faster to take a trip round many back streets and come out onto Holme Lane, then go round the one way system at Malin Bridge, than to sit at those lights for no apparent reason, when the queue disappears straight after the lights.
