Angel1 11-11-2005, 16:04 Does anybody know what is being on the old site of the PDSA veterinary building opposite Waitrose (just of eccy road). Is it more apartments or retail space? Hopman 11-11-2005, 16:16 Could it be: Erection of 27 residential units and Restaurant/Bar Unit ? http://libplugins.sheffield.gov.uk/planning/details.asp?id=13135 nick2 11-11-2005, 16:17 It would be funny if they were "luxury" flats costing £200K, next door to the council block where you could probably buy a bigger flat for about £30K Angel1 11-11-2005, 16:22 Thanks Hopman. Building seems to be getting bigger and bigger. I was just getting curious. 27 seems a lot. Have to wait and see the finished article ? Not far from the Olds Wards brewery apartments though or The forge. Plain Talker 11-11-2005, 18:35 It's a development of more apartments, angel1, unfortunately. PT dinp 11-11-2005, 21:43 Originally posted by Plain Talker It's a development of more apartments, angel1, unfortunately. PT Why unfortunately PT? If they are hell bent on making it as difficult as possible to access the centre by car, it makes sense to have people live in the city centre, where they're less likely to need one! Not only that, having more people living in the city centre increases the catchment population for retailers and should improve the retail offer eventually. With each new tenant comes a new wallet of disposable income, income that is less likely to end up in Meadowhall tills if people live on the doorstep of the city centre. nick2 13-11-2005, 12:14 Originally posted by dinp With each new tenant comes a new wallet of disposable income, income that is less likely to end up in Meadowhall tills if people live on the doorstep of the city centre. That might be true if there were any shops suited to the kind of people who buy these apartments in town, I can't see people who have spent £150K on an apartment needing a Jack Fulton and a Poundland on their doorstep. Stargazer8 13-11-2005, 12:37 Never knock a bargain is all I can say! My house cost £150k and I shop in poundlands, car boot sales and charity shops. penny_crayon 13-11-2005, 12:48 These flats are a mixture of high spec 1, 2 and 3 bed apartments, with a bar/restaurant/retail unit below. The development is not really very big, there is an application for a much bigger one further down Napier Street. dinp 13-11-2005, 17:07 Originally posted by dinp Not only that, having more people living in the city centre increases the catchment population for retailers and should improve the retail offer eventually. ^^ Nick2, read this. The city centre wont improve immediately, but shrewd buyers who know the state of the economy and the plans for regeneration in the city centre will assess the potential before buying or leasing. No matter how wealthy I end up being, I will always shop in the cheap shops. Not as up-market as Selfridges Food Hall perhaps but posh enough for the riff-raff residents at the bottom of Ecclesall Road :P dj_roberto_j 13-11-2005, 23:36 There's a Waitrose in Sheffield? Oh my god, where!? :o dinp 13-11-2005, 23:58 Originally posted by dj_roberto_j There's a Waitrose in Sheffield? Have we got to wait 5 years, and have half the city centre turned into apartments before we get some decent shops ? dinp 14-11-2005, 11:26 Originally posted by nick2 When though, when ? Have we got to wait 5 years, and have half the city centre turned into apartments before we get some decent shops ? Possibly. What's the problem there? Do you not like the thought of extra people living in the city? |
