View Full Version : What do you hate about Sheffield?
i hate having to do the fargate shuffle to avoid the charities big issue etc plus i dont like seeing the peace gardens turned into the local hang out for the refugees.............. i also dislike some of the crappy bars we have most of them are on divison street for some reason i could go on and on .......:loopy:
Indigogo 11-02-2004, 04:02 The broken windows, dumped rubbish, graffiti and general vandalism that we pay to put right with Council Tax.
sheffield 6, especially that dump of a soon to be 3rd division football ground :)

People who whinge and whinge and whinge and don't get off their a***s and do something about the problems they see.
how as soon as a building gets old instead of restoring it like Barnsley and leeds they pull it down and build these modern buildings that probably wont be standing in 10 years time. Is this where all our school and hospital money goes?

If you work on the trams I suppose it counts....
I hate the Sheffield Star. It's an embarrassment of a paper.
I hate the Sheffield Council. They're an embarrassment of a council.
Meadowhell! but mostly I like it - otherwise I wouldn't be here.
I also don't like the new bars on West St (esp S1) - bring back the pubs!
dont really hate anything - thats a bit extreme, but i dislike:
*the fact bars close at either 11pm or 1am
*too far from the seaside
*too many hills
*'city' centre is not like a real city centre i.e. manchester/leeds/liverpool
* lack of decent clubs (techno)
* cultural places like a tate or museum or places of interest. (i know there are places but there just doesnt seem like enough)
apart from that it's cool.
DaBouncer 11-02-2004, 10:10 - Bars in town closing early
- The fact that we've not taken advantage of a natural beauty (i.e. the canals)
- Sheffield City Council (i.e. tax rises, slow workmanship)
- Traffic Lights
Crap bus service (see my rants in the "worst bus route?" thread), retarded council, other than that I love Sheffield.
fnkysknky 11-02-2004, 12:29 Not gonna complain about anything as I've been the length and breadth of this country and would take Sheffield over anywhere. It ain't perfect but at least it ain't London either :D
Pete1024 11-02-2004, 13:29 Kids and crime:
* Vandalism
* Burglary
* Car Crime
* Muggins
Had 4 burglaries since dec 20th 2003
Dog poo on pavements, grass verges, parks etc. Why can't more dog owners scoop it up and take it with them?
Not really a Sheffield problem I suppose but there is loads of it round where I live and it really gives me the hump.

SO stop knocking the city, if you feel that passionate about this place then do something positive to change it.
Don't stand on the outside screaming at the system when you could go on the inside and whisper change.
I don't dislike anything really or I wouldn't have moved here BUT being a soft southerner... The Weather, especially that foggy stuff that stays for ages and makes you feel like you are gonna go crazy.

Babooshka 11-02-2004, 21:34 Firstly, where did Record Collector move to ? Is it not still in Broomhill ? I don't know what you are all whinging about. Sheffield is where it is AT ! I miss it sooooooooooo much. I live in a small town now and I tell you....make the most of what you have on your doorstep...ie EVERYTHING. I was up there last weekend and I went to the theatre, pubbing, walking in the country, shopping ( and to a funeral but that wasn't so fortunate) You guys are so lucky to be there. It is one of the friendliest, most diverse cities I know. Make the most of it and explore. You can not be disappointed. Most of your complaints are not solely related to Sheff. but to life in English cities in general. I am NEVER bored. Get off your arses and LIVE ! Even if you think you won't enjoy something, chances are when you try it, you will !
Sam Miguel 11-02-2004, 21:36 I dislike the the pavement outside my house. It is badly in need of repair. I would like the asphalt to be removed, and to have fine Italian tiling instead.
I don't like the litter. I don't like the beer-bottles (empty ones). I don't like the crap that lines our city streets and the way the 45,000 'guest' students complain about it, even though they seem to be hugely to blame as they don't yet respect this fine city. I don't like.. I don't bl***dy like.. I don't... I don't!
But, most of all, I dislike people who can't just take Sheffield for what it is and get on with it.
Shove!
It's mucky, it's scruffy, it's not a fashion-type centre - but it's famous for what it is..... Sheffield.....the biggest village in England.

Will this do?
Is local government finance flawed?
Yes. Central government provides 75% of a local authority's budget, the remaining 25% comes from the local area. Because the central government budget is fixed, if a council wants to raise overall expenditure by just 1%, council tax goes up by 4% or 5%. This is disproportionate and unfair, particularly since council tax hits lower income groups fairly hard.

agree with you there mate! it is nice and friendly and i do take it for what it is. i just think some improvements could be made.
another one ive thought of is that the road system in the city centre could be made better...
there are over 50,000 students and althought they may be annoying at times, sheffield would be a ghost town without them.

I agree that a lot of students (especially the younger ones, who have never beean away from home before), do create a lot of the mess. However not all of them, myself, and pretty much all of the student friends I have, respect this city as we do our own homes. T'is a great city indeed, with all the problems that cities have.
Captain_Scarlet 12-02-2004, 17:20 Things i really find crap in Sheffield:
> First buses
> The Millenium Galeries
> Big Issue and other people who ask for stuff on Fargate.
> All those crossings on roads
> those road that are not dual carriage ways anymore
> them huts on the Moor.
> John Lewis who isn't called Cole Brothers anymore.
> University of Sheffield (I'm a Hallam guy, so i'm only joking).
> Meadowhall, it's boring, got no intersting shops and full of mums with prams and pushchairs.
> All those modern buildings that look like they were built from an Ikea kit.
that pretty usms up what sheffield council has been doing for the last 10 years, amazing how they coincide...

i really like sheffield - people are friendly up here - i was at university for 5 years then went down south for a couple of years and now i'm back up!
physically the city centre doesn't have much of a 'heart' and would be better if it was more vibrant but hopefully the new proposals will have some impact on that
tslogf74 21-02-2004, 17:11 I agree with the "too far from the beach" comment, and the "stop sitting on your arse" comments. How do I move Sheffield closer to the beach?

Isn't this a depressing thread? We have all chosen to live and work here (well, most of us). We could have chosen to live and work somewhere else - but we didn't.
Constructive criticism is one thing - but miscellaneous whining and whinging is another!
Why not think about what is GOOD about Sheffield and build on it, rather than sitting there hoping that someone else will do something about it getting better?
And constantly criticising new developments and improvements without thinking about the alternative (stagnation and dereliction) doesn't help either!
JFK's quotation about "Think not about what your country
can do for you, but think about what you can do for your country" may be adapted and applied here, possibly?
Rant over :D

The only thing holding us back is (generally) the Council that has itself firmly institutionalised in the notion that they should have control on the reigns of everything that goes off in Sheffield.
I lay a challenge to them... Give the private sector a clear run and just see what marvellous things will happen, instead of holding it back through dogma.
I cite Manchester, Nottingham, Leeds and Devonshire Green and then rest my case m'lud.
My 2 cents before this thread probably descends into locks-ville... The only thing wrong with this city is that it's currently being run by a bunch of mentally incompetent muppets that can no more run themselves than a city as large as Sheffield.
I am of course referring to the Council (apologies to anyone here who has the unfortunate task of working for them, you have my deepest sympathies).
Michael_W 22-02-2004, 15:28 I am of course referring to the Council (apologies to anyone here who has the unfortunate task of working for them, you have my deepest sympathies).
They don't get my sympathies Rich, them council employees generally earn above average for the job.
Tony, Rich and michael_w just exactly who do you mean by 'the council'? I'm interested because everybody seems to blame 'the council' for all the ills of the city. Do you mean:
The well paid directors including the chief executive?
The elected members who do the job for peanuts?
The staff who are far from being well paid?
Which is it and what have they done wrong?
PS I do not work for the council nor am I an elected member, I'm just interested in why people blame 'the council' without being explicit about what they mean.
All of the above, but not all of all of the above.
In a single word.... attitude
Sheffield ... city on the move.... if we keep pushing we might just get the council to come kicking and screaming into the 1980's.

From your incisive comments I gather you are doing postdoctoral research into conflict resolution?
Presumably there is no cause for which you would protest; because the concept of acting on ideals and aspirations rather than service to self and personal profit may be quite alien to you.

Actually, i'm a first year student. I do act according to my ideal,s protesting isn't one of them... Protesting is simply something rising labour invented to annoy everyone, annoyance is not something to be proud to do.
It just come to prove that not all students, even first years, can have a bit of sence, and yet get ****** on Fridays and act immaturely during lectures... ;) :D ;) :D

Labour founded 1900s.
I think you'll find that Wat Tyler, The Tolpuddle Martyrs, The Suffragettes, The Boston Tea Party and The Luddites, to name but a few, were protesting a lot earlier than that.:loopy:

I'm a 1 day a week student, and as far as I'm concerned the Iraq war should never have happened, at least not from a British standpoint, meaning if the Yanks wanted to go and fight a pointless war, let them... But Tony Blair was so far up George W Bush's arse the whole time, he decided to send our brave forces over there as well, leaving mothers without sons, kids without their dads, wives without husbands....
Sorry, I am just strongly against the war in Iraq, if they'd found anything with regard to the WOMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction) then fair enough, the war would've been justified, but all they found was a classroom full of Weapons of Maths Instruction (a ruler, protractor and a calculator).
Controversial joke I know, and if I was a Politician I'd be on the front page of the Mirror for it probably, but those are my thoughts regarding the matter of Iraq.

Whatever it is you're studying, I think we can safely assume it's not English! :)
I always thought that English to Grade C O Level / GCSE was a minimum requirement for ANY degree. How do you reach the age of 18 and Grade C grade without knowing the difference between an apostrophe and a comma, or how to spell "sense" - I won't mention the grammar ;)

Shellspeare 02-03-2004, 18:30 it's just too hilly. i cant go anywhere in sheffield without climbing!
here are a few things that annoy me about sheffield
1) all the potentially gorgeous period housing that is wasted on making money for landlords whom are too greedy to keep their properties in even good repair. even worse, they renovate these properties in the most distasteful ways e.g. pvc window frames and hideous loft conversions.
2) the city centre at pub/club kick-out times on a fri/sat. disgusting (and i'm young, go out, get drunk but still don't feel the need to turn into a senseless idiot).
3) the bbc and football hooliganism in general (added to by the fact sheffield has 2 teams); the fact the whole of the city centre has to shut down when there is a home game.
4) freshers week - sheffield uni/hallam "looking after" their new students by encouraging them to be drunk for a week with noone but strangers to watch out for them. great policy.
5) rush hour / school run traffic
6) inner-city living. i.e. £600 pw for a paper thin shoebox. but hey they have chrome fixtures and fittings y'know!
7) west street
i suspect all of these points are not just sheffield gripes (i bet every city has it very own "west street" too).
on the plus side we do have, the peaks on our door; trippet lane; community feel with lots of different overlapping scenes; lots of greenspace; graves farm; vegetarian eateries; the man with the "god" signs in the city centre; peace gardens (so what if refugees hang out there); and loads of other stuff that i can't think of right now.
Hello my good friends. Hope you are all ok in your chosen field. What i want to know are the things that really, really do annoy you in Sheffield. Come here and get it off your chest so to speak and feel that you can let it go when you have written about it. So come on get writing. I am annoyed about drivers that all seem to join the same lane when there is one next to it that no one is in 'AND' it goes the same way. Namley the Sheffield Parkway.....Grr!!!!!!!.. Hmm i feel a bit better now.

Pubs you should avoid coz they've been refurbished and now look like an Ikea brochure:
Robin Hood, Millhouses.

bulldog D 29-05-2004, 21:29 Something that really gets me going is the slow response time from the police when you ring 2202020. I placed a call the other night and it took them 18m.50s to answer.
The roads annoy me, and the fact that most of them are falling to pieces. Our roads are of a standard the Third World might be proud of, but we should be able to do better.
Just thought of another one. The Tinsley Viaduct, i mean come on when is that going to be finished. Oh yes and while im on about things, those annoying people who empty their ash trays onto the road from their car. Really annoying.
I've mentioned in another thread the fact that the viaduct always seems to have ongoing work on it.
Nu_Skillz 30-05-2004, 06:43 i cant think of one thing specific to sheffield that annoys me!!
how cool's that :D
or.....
how about the suit and tie brigade who charge down fargate at lunchtime chuntering about the number of mums with prams/pensioners etc.
gets right up my nose - we got as much right to be there as anyone!! I cant leave my place of work at lunchtimes, so i have to get in town when i can...and when im not working i have 3 small kids in tow!
so, the next time you walk down fargate at lunchtime, and you see a mad woman with 3 little kids attached to reins...its me!!! dont cross me!!!

Are you drunk or something?
Sam Miguel 10-06-2004, 15:35 Just to say: this week's 'Speaking of Which' is concerned with this thread and some of the comments on it.
I know its no doubt been mentioned before but...
Why is it a place as big as this can't have an IKEA.. because it might take trade away from town? like where?
Why is it a place as big as this can't get it's act together to have a decent airport?.. because people don't like the noise?
Why are there so many shops in the city centre that sell rubbish for a week and then disappear? To compete with IKEA?
The word PIG to describe either a Wednesday or United fan. I'm all for rivallry but for some reason that really annoys me.
How its taken us so long to accept a new look to the centre of town. Why do we always seem to have debates in the media when they want to put up a statue or a fountain?
Our pathetic Christmas lights.
How we tolerate winos and dropouts on the City Hall steps.. why can't the police see them and I can?
People who walk about the streets supping cans of beer...
WOW that was therapeutic LOL
I do like living here though LOL
the bloody sheffield housing market!....everywhere sells for 10-15k above the asking price!
whats that all about then eh?
Wavey i totally agree sir. I know someone else has picked up on this but i feel i have to mention it again.'TRAFFIC LIGHTS' Arghh!!! the bottom of wadsley lane going towards the Sheffield Wednesday ground. I was waiting the other day there for 11mins!!!!!!!!!!!. Its just crazy and really, really damn annoying.
Have to say I think not having an Ikea is a big plus point!
Crap roads,,,,Hills Tram/bus gate,,,,t020,,,,Helen Jackson MP,,,,Woodseats roadworks,,,,
What i find really annoying is.........
Well Sheffield is not the prettiest place in the world, architectually speaking ( otherwise the natural beauty is stunnig, which makes it even worse) so why architects and city planners are intent in making it even uglier.
For example the university building is really impressive, even though it is a new-ish building, but they go and join it next to the most blanest looking box with windows.
The main part is gotic in style and when i went to Weston park i realised that the sides are too, but from the main road nobody gets to see that, they just see the monstrosity.
Other example similar to this is the Mappin buliding whose gorgeous facade looks into a square which hardly anybody sees. However the really ugly side of the building is past by thousands of motorists everday.
And more recently the city is intent on making the same mistake with the winter garden.
Here you have a lovely example of cutting edge architecture a real impressive building that can give the heart of the city a real focus point and what happens ? sOMEBODY WANTS TO GO AND BUILD A GREAT UGLY BIG HOTEL IN FRONT OF IT.
I know this has been discussed many times before but i thought that the hotel would be to the side of the winter gardens and millenium square infront.
However visiting the place a few days ago I looked in horror to see what looks like the foundations of this hotel practically on top of the winter gardens and the square to the side.
Have the council gone mad??????
Oh no thats just Sheffield........ intent in revelling in its ugliness just like listing the Parkhill flats
What is that all about!
Sorry for all the spelling mistakes !!blandest not blanest
LittleWitch 11-06-2004, 13:50 I agree with Mucha about the hotel. Unfortunately it seems to be the case that the council only listen to those with money. If it comes down to what the people of Sheffield want, or what some rich multinational company want, the big company wins nearly every time. I dont understand how a council (which is elected by the people of Sheffield to act in our best interests - NOT those of outsiders who couldn't give two hoots about Sheffield or the people in it) can persistently ignore what the people who elected them are saying, and go ahead and do what they want to anyway, because it's in the "interests of Sheffield". In the interests of their wallets more like. :(
The thing that annoys me about Sheffield is stupid employers who won't give me a job cos they won't take the risk of employing a disabled person despite the fact that I have qualifications galore (see my rants in Plain Talker's discrimination thread).
But I suppose that would be universal, not just exclusive to Sheffield... :loopy:
Lets see,
I've lived here for about 6 years now so this is going to be a long list:
1) Cars park and drive in bus lanes. Look at the bus lanes on Winter Street (past Crookes Valley Park and the Arts Tower) at 9:10 in the morning.
2) Sheffield city centre shops are dead after 5:30-6:00.
3) Two football teams in Sheffield means twice as many idiots on match days. All the pubs on the route between the station and Bramall lane have to shut when the footy crowd comes through.
4) Busses are unreliable.
5) No tourist attractions and a lack of life in the town centre. Compare Sheffield on a summer weekend to York on a summer weekend.
6) Tram is mostly useless because it' doesn't go anywhere near my house. I have to walk 15-20 minutes to the nearest stop.
7) Day tickets that cover the tram and the bus are way too expensive. You have to choose either the trams or the busses.
Heh, you asked what annoyed me. I do really like living here, and if you asked what I liked about Sheffield I'ld have a list twice as long.

That's what i alwways tell myself, am I exagerating xwith the down sides, but then realise the plus side has more points in it !
SHEFFIELD IS ACE !
I hate the way that the traffic lights around the Ecclesall Rd roundabout and the Bramall Lane roundabout are not actually on the roundabout but set about 15 yards back.
During peak traffic times you wait at the lights for ages and finally when they are on green you only progress about 2 feet as the cars which just sneaked through the lights as they changed are still waiting at the roundabout as they cant get on it because it's so busy.
Is it just me or are the lights completly pointless as at none peak times they are switched off. Surely it would be better to move them onto the actual roundabout like in most normal cities.
yeah and is it just me or have people now started disregarding red lights all together? And AND.. LOL.. people who go through lights onto the yellow hatched box and just sit there looking at you as your lkights change to green.. grrrrr
mucha - well said!
I also hate the one way system in the centre of town,
students,
and the fact that the house prices have gone more thru the roof than they shouldve done for a place this size, thanks to the number of landlords paying over the odds for student properties.

We have medical student neighbours on both sides - their gardens are an eyesore but they are nice enough neighbours.
Parking - now thats a different story! Crookesmoor Road is a nightmare to get along at night during university term times and I can't get parked anywhere near my house during the week due to the students cars that never turn a wheel until the weekend!

Parking is getting worse everywhere, allthough I know Crrokesmoor road IS bad, as you say. Even in the higher end of greystones where students are more less likely to live, the change in the last 8 years is astonishing, cars parked at angles on the corner of junctions is the norm.
Almost every house has two cars!

Wow, well done, I'd have more like an hours walk to a tram stop. I'd half to walk into the centre of town from Woodeats.
Count yourself lucky.

jackthedog 16-06-2004, 15:43 Students themselves might annoy people, but Sheffield wouldn't be the place it is now without them, IMO.
The town centre is too difficult to negotiate by car.
The one way system i mean come on,what a joke that is. You have to go 2mile out of your way just to get somewhere...mmmmmm.....very,very annoying.

That's the Council's plan..... Annoy car users into a frame of mind where they decide "sod this" and decide to use public transport.... Is it any wonder a lot of people prefer Meadowhall?! :loopy:
Yea to right, not only that but you dont see drunks walking around Meadowhall. Oh and yea there are no one way systems in or around Meadowhall so thats quite cool. Mind you this is a'Annoying in Sheffield' Thread, so im going to complain about those drivers, and you know who you are that dont park in parking bays, no you just park anywhere you like....mmmmm....let me think.
the one way system, puts me off everytime, Sheffield estate agents, they are joined at the hip so no one gets a good deal apart from them.people who wont change an are stuck in the long distant past, having to stand outside a pub for half an hour to get in and not get served for another half and hour-(at weekends).
not enough taxis at the weekend....
people moaning about bus drivers:mad:

Don't give the Council credit for having a plan. They simply haven't got one.
We just had some friends stay for a few days whose last visit was three years ago. They went off into town one day for a look around and do a bit of shopping, and were totally p***ed off by the time they came back. They even had to phone us for help finding their way out of town !
dragonsoup 17-06-2004, 22:40 Carron p , if this is as cool as gets for you love (of cool shops, like Habitat, Muji, Ikea, town centre, is way behind Leeds and Manchester.) try and travel around a bit. Maybe get someone who will put up with your stuck up southern mentality to go with you.
People in Sheffield, and especially locals, dont give a sh.. whether its like Leeds...Manchester...London.. whatever. You know where the railway station is and it would now be cheaper for you to live in Manchester.
Good luck
p.s. if you work in property, which your profile states, and you have not worked out the crack with the estate agents yet...god help you, If you work for a company ..god help them.

So where is it that you come from, that has a lower percentage of 'Numpties' dylan?
What are you going on about???? how dare you insult me, you know nothing about me, you must be very upset about something to insult a complete stranger, I have a right to speak my mind about Sheffield, for your information I have lived all over the world, but chose to live here-where I was born !! get your facts right.
puddington 25-06-2004, 23:23 i agree that the changes in road layout are ridiculus. Sheffield concil say they want to cut congestion but the recent changes at the bottom of queens raod, and around the leadmill and republic were unnecessary (as far as i can see) and force drives to go right round the city center to get to where they want to go because a few roads have been blocked off
24 hour bus lane for Western Bank, A57.
£8 million for road changes around Barkers Pool. Ever changing one way systems.
Why do the council planners feel a need to constantly p*ss around with our roads.
There is a simple answer to that question.
It's because the Highways Dep't do that kind of work with 'grant' money from central government. If they don't do lots of tinkering the Dep't would have to reduce in size.
Makes you wonder doesn't it?
custardcream 26-06-2004, 16:03 The council's thinkin on most things.....labour/lib dems diffrent partys same crap...
Trendy bars full of either:
1: pretentious "look at me" people (Revolution for example at the weekend)

noseyrosie 27-06-2004, 00:19 Jackets with highlights? Oh good gracious me...
I bet they had those nasty jeans with writing all over the arse/Diesel ones with carefully placed rips.
Rusted Root 28-06-2004, 23:36 Annoy me in this stinking city. Okay maybe it dosen't stink but anyway ...
People who are rude for absolutely no reason really get my goat. I mean the people who will go out looking for trouble and pick on people, pick fights etc.
I tend to get alot of crap whenever I go downtown - the reason is unknown to me. Some say its because I look slightly different (dreadlocks, rainbow bag etc) but is that really a cause for some stupid thick idiot to air their views on how I look? And what makes them think that I actually value their views? I value horse- doody more than them!!
Get a life people. Just because some of us don't all want to look the same, don't think thats an excuse for antisocial behaviour.
Also the police irritate me. They allow dealers, violent yobs, nuisance kids and god knows who else to walk free when they try to arrest me for having twosies on a spliff! Get your priorities right people!
Students (college mainly) annoy me also. They and they're families go crazy and rush to get into college to study and better themselves, then when they get into college they do nothing but beat up tutors and generally be buttholes.
University students and people with degrees: They think that they are better than the fellow man. Get over yourselves.
Steelworks: Abandon Sheffield and sack all the steelworkers (people who had spent years training for the craft).
Customers at work: Get out of my way when I'm working please!! And don't moan either - I leave you guys plenty of room to get past my crap.
Err ... Sheffield Council: Our townhall is beautiful. Please get it sandblasted or something. It looks a state.
Beggers: I've been really skint all my short life but I still don't beg buddy ...
My boss: Never heard of the Geneva Convention luv?
Druggies: THEY GIVE YOU LITTLE BOXES FOR YOU'RE SHARPS FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!
Y'know what? I'll just relocate to Sheffield, Pennsylvania instead.
Also guys, bald heads and sunglasses do NOT got together!!
Ta xx

(ps - I don't intend to get into a discussion about child labour in Peruvian mines. )
i really really really hate
a) waiting for a bus at 5am sometimes it arrives doin 90mph at 0450 an sometimes it arrives at 0515 an crawls to town so i`m late for work
B) drunken idiots who like to go out looking for trouble and have no intention of having a good night out unless it ends in fighting some poor innocent who wasn`t aware of their presence until the fist/glass hits them in the face
c)people with a dozen brats who feel they can have as many as they like whilst having no intention of supporting them or bringing them up with any values whatsoever and leaving them outside all day vandalising things and causing a nuicance to others
d)litter droppers
e)people who do nothing all day and just sit in their homes leaving the gardens to grow and grow so they resemble a cross between a rubbish tip and an overgrown jungle
f) gangs of cowards who wear hoods to hide their faces in case they are actually caught doing something they shouldn`t be and can be recognised.
g) people who scare little old ladies into being afraid to go out of their homes
there! i feel much better now
fredsredhat 31-08-2004, 19:26 the pound shop in meadowhall on giro day........
Yea i agree with you there my friend, Crikey!!!!! that place is full on Giro day matey. The Sheffield City Council. Why is it everyone and i do mean nearly everyone hates them. Why though really, may be because they never listen to the people of Sheffield. I myself do not live in a council house, but if i did then im sure it would be very, very frowned on to have to speak and deal with these idiots. Again though my point of veiw.
WallBuilder 26-09-2004, 23:51 I have discovered a new talent over the years, now when something annoys me, and it's usually down to the sloppy city council work ethic, well now I go and complain, rather than sitting in the pub and winging to all and sundry I go and try to talk with the person who may if I'm extremely lucky do something about whatever is bothering me. I'm quite sure Street Force have probably got a file on me now and that's just one department, which reminds me some lout has been vandelising roadside litter bins near me they'll need replacing, now would that be Street Force or Onyx?
People who extend an area so that their house is in it, this mostly seens to happen with Dore (or Dore Village ?), which seems to cover all of the west and south of Sheffield.
I'm not sure why people do this, as living in Dore is no big deal.
I have had many a polite argument with customers along the lines of :
"Hello, this is Mrs X, from Dore"
"How can I help you ?"
"Please send me a brochure (or whatever)"
"Whats your address ?"
"Blah, Blah, Blah, Dore"
"Thats not in Dore, it's Millhouses"
"No it's not, its' Dore, I think I know where I live."
etc.
etc.
and they will argue for an hour about this.
This doesn't actually annoy me, i find it amusing.
I can't believe nobody has mentioned SPEED BUMPS.
My car is two years old and it rattles and squeaks like a Doncaster taxi.
The 'angular' ones on Carter Knowle Road are the worst. I live on CKR, so I can't go anywhere without having to go over them.
For pity's sake, let's put in speed cameras instead, so law-abiding drivers don't get punished.

The drivers that continually drive the wrong way down the busy one way road in Oughtibridge. My parked up car is going to come a right cropper one day. Can't people read street signs anymore?

The Carterknowle bumps are a nightmare. I think there are 26 of them, and in my work vehicle I am slowed down to 5 MPH.
I did read of a community that had the height of speed bumps reduced on one road because they had been made higher than EU specifications ... can't remember where, though.
- The bus lane on Savile Street
- The stupid road arrangement where Savile Street meets the Wicker and Cutler's gate. The buses are in the left lane, wanting to go right and the cars are in the right lane(s) wanting to go left!!! SWAP THEM OVER FFS!
- The road network and arrangement pretty much all over the city. Pointless bus lanes. The roads here suck big time.
- The condition of road surfaces all around Sheffield.
- 40 sets of traffic lights in my 4 mile journey to work (so 80 sets a day)
- Bus drivers - for never checking their mirrors and blocking yellow boxes (Savile St/Wicker)
- Sheaf and Dyson Houses
- People saying 'while' instead of 'until'
- Men calling men 'love'
- Rude and stupid customers
- Lack of covered shopping in city centre
- Roxy Disco
- The Post Office's (Pond St) LIMITED opening hours!
I think i'm done :D
