without a doubt. :)
I'm not a Sheffielder myself but having been out of Sheffield for nearly 2 years now, I can't wait to go back and live in Sheffield. So is my husband who's a Sheffielder. We find it hard to come across unfriendly people on a daily basis where we are.
So yes, Sheffielders are dead friendly and am lucky to be with one otherwise I couldn't cope with living down South.
I mean, come on, even some Southerners tell us how nicer people are from Sheffield and the North...

Yeah us Northerners are considerably more friendly and sociable than our neighbours down South... Especially considering the fact that in my experience a lot of Southerners are ignorant of the North, in fact half of them think anything North of the M25 might as well be on Mars for all the understanding they have of it :loopy:

Sheffield is a city unto itself, the reason it has always been so friendly is that it was, is and always will be the world's biggest village. I lived for three years in Manchester and while I loved it for its nightlife and realtive flatness :heyhey: the people were either arrogant tending toward the violent, or disturbingly defensive and paranoid, tending toward the ultra violent.
The same can be said of Leeds, where as big as I am, I feel intimidated even in daylight.
I also travel the length and breadth of the country as a performer, and yes people are friendly in other places, but when youre a singer people dont generally want to kick the hell out of you.
Here in Sheffield, as anyone either insider or outsider will tell you, sitting at a bus stop, or queueing in a shop, or having a cup of tea, someone will strike up a conversation and spend a pleasant few minutes, or in some cases hours, telling you their life story as if you've known each other for years. people smile back when you smile at them, readily, and they dont assume you're a nutter!

I used to be in a College full of Londoners about 10 years ago, and most of them did think that anything North of the M25 was unworthy...

So I am speaking from experience.

Try working and every day contact down south with them, you'll then realise your statement isn't worth wiping your backside with!

I agree,I spent 4 years living and working in Northolt,Perivale,Wembley and Chelsea.
The people were fine, there was none of this Northern Scum attitude that people go on about, had some good nights out with them and a few of them even came home with me when I came home to visit.

I even married a southerner,so they cant all be bad.

The north of Watford theory should be saved for the comedians and tabloid newspapers.

My sister and brother in law just returned (last month) from living for 5 years in St Albans.

They both say that people are nowhere near as friendly down there, nor do they want to stop and chat or make eye contact when travelling on public transport on daily journeys etc.

They couldn't wait to return home and I must say its great having them back.

When I visited them last year, I travelled by train. On my return journey I gave up my seat (as train was packed) to a blind lady. She thanked me and said 'you're not from round here are you?' I replied, 'no, was it my accent that gave it away?' To my absolute horror she said 'oh no not at all, its your manners. People down here don't give up their seat for me'!

It must be so sad living that way - isn't it nice to have a friendly word with people we meet during our daily activities? And we get to learn all sorts of interesting and helpful information that we wouldn't have otherwise known.

Lets stay as friendly as we are.

Sheffield has some nice spots and some bad spots like all places, but yeah I think some of the people up here are sound, not as much so in some places but I think sheffield is a top place although I couldn't see myself spending my whole life in the same city.
