What are the ins and outs of doing a Britney in Las Vegas? How easy would it be to go there, marry a mate, then get it annulled a few hours later? Do all chapels only cater for serious weddings?

If you can have 10 Elvis impersonators as your "witnesses" I'm guessing not. JonJParr 11-11-2005, 14:03 In Vegas anything's possible. You can even get drive-thru marriages! Carmine 11-11-2005, 14:06 Is there a chance that the erstwhile Britney was well served by her no doubt highly paid team of legal experts in this department? I have a feeling this one is just waiting to burn the unwary. Clare85 11-11-2005, 14:07 I wouldn't mind getting married for a couple of hours. Wouldn't look very good on the CV though! Classic Rock 11-11-2005, 14:11 You wouldn't put it on your CV! Has anyone stumbled over any websites that cater for this? Clare85 11-11-2005, 14:12 Ooooh are you off to do it? Good luck! Classic Rock 11-11-2005, 14:15 Er, not me! Just wondered how it could be done. I'm sure there's a way.... It's $55 for a marriage licence (found that much out), then there's the chapel's fee. The question is whether a licence is needed and if just the ceremony can be booked? sugarnspice 11-11-2005, 14:18 I could see myself doing something like this one day. :D Sierra 11-11-2005, 15:14 The husband and I were married in Nevada 20 years ago, but not in Las Vegas. You must first obtain a marriage license. The difference between Nevada and other states is that once you and your intended are granted a license, there is no blood test or waiting (cooling off) period. I believe the license is good for one year. Here's some websites to help you. http://www.insidervlv.com/marriage.html The website for Clark County, Nevada. This has the official requirements and info. http://www.co.clark.nv.us/clerk/marriage_information.htm This wedding chapel caught my eye. http://www.vivalasvegasweddings.com/lasvegas-wedding-chapel-facts.htm Marriages performed in Las Vegas ARE legal and binding, and Carmine is exactly right. Little Miss Britney has money and legal resources the rest of us can only dream about. Like alot of things in this life, marriage in Las Vegas might look easy to get into, but it's hard to get out of. Best of luck, :) Sierra ReverendSam 11-11-2005, 15:48 If I remember the law correctly? In the UK, as citizens, if you marry abroad in any ceremony recognosed by the UK then you are in theory married in UK law also, (Vegas Included, even if they do not know about it?). As for divorces valid in the UK, the law says you have to wait one year from the marriage before a legal divorce can be given, (special exceptions do exist, Vegas however not be one). Of course as pointed out in previous posts, high priced lawyers bends all these rules. teebee 11-11-2005, 16:41 I got married in Las Vegas 3 years ago, but unlike Britney, i did actually plan mine. |
