What are the ins and outs of doing a Britney in Las Vegas? How easy would it be to go there, marry a mate, then get it annulled a few hours later? Do all chapels only cater for serious weddings?

In Vegas anything's possible. You can even get drive-thru marriages!

It's $55 for a marriage licence (found that much out), then there's the chapel's fee.

The question is whether a licence is needed and if just the ceremony can be booked?

The husband and I were married in Nevada 20 years ago, but not in Las Vegas. You must first obtain a marriage license. The difference between Nevada and other states is that once you and your intended are granted a license, there is no blood test or waiting (cooling off) period. I believe the license is good for one year.

Marriages performed in Las Vegas ARE legal and binding, and Carmine is exactly right. Little Miss Britney has money and legal resources the rest of us can only dream about. Like alot of things in this life, marriage in Las Vegas might look easy to get into, but it's hard to get out of.

If I remember the law correctly?

In the UK, as citizens, if you marry abroad in any ceremony recognosed by the UK then you are in theory married in UK law also, (Vegas Included, even if they do not know about it?).

As for divorces valid in the UK, the law says you have to wait one year from the marriage before a legal divorce can be given, (special exceptions do exist, Vegas however not be one).

Of course as pointed out in previous posts, high priced lawyers bends all these rules.

I got married in Las Vegas 3 years ago, but unlike Britney, i did actually plan mine.
