There was also market stalls there on market days, and I can remember visiting often because one of my aunties lived on Cemetery Road near the drill factory. Funke88 10-02-2004, 23:50 I loved his forest and the elves that helped him. Remember the giant golden key that he used to get in your house? We didn't have a chimney so he had to get in some way to bring gifts! mojoworking 11-02-2004, 01:56 Was that the one where you had to go through a kind of maze made from picket fencing before reaching Santa? Another strong memory from that period was the big model train set in the entrance to the Midland Station every year at Christmas. You had to put a coin in to operate it. spunkee 16-11-2005, 11:05 Originally posted by Tazz070299 It was long before the Manpower building was erected, and if I remember right an old bomb site. Fareast 17-11-2005, 13:23 As far as I can remember , The Moor still had traffic in the '60's and when they introduced the Xmas Lights , it was a really great place -------a good few pubs , plenty of people till late at night -----a real ,'buzz' and a good feeling all round . Can't imagine , for one minute it's anything like that now ! bigkev 18-11-2005, 01:31 I say all of you you want to have a look at them books that are out they are all about sheffield in the 60's & 70's they have got some brilliant photos in there what the moor use to look like I can remember going up the moor in the 60's on a bus there use to be a bus stop outside debs store and can anybody remember the fountain what was at the top of the moor it would be straight in front of the virgin mega store if it was here now. there is something that I miss now that we dont see anymore and thats the student rag parade and the magazine I think it was called the twicker might be wrong but i seem to think that it was called that, I can also remember the joke shop at the bottom of the moor spent some hours in there when I was a kid. one of my favourite jokes was in there hot sweets they were called just like jelly tots but made from hot pepper they were bloody hot. I can remember the bad winter what we had in 1964 and the moor was just like something out of christmas card never seen so much snow down there. I can remember waiting, terrified in the huge que with my mum. Waiting to be stabbed in the arm by "the bad man with the blunt needle".:heyhey: |
