I have been doing Ashtanga Yoga since June at a litte church hal in Dore.
Last week the girl that runs the classes announced that she would leave England for 2 years to go travelling. I just wondered if anyone knew of an Ashtanga yoga practicioner who offered classes in/near Sheffield:)

I think that there was talk of an ashtanga class being started at the new yoga centre on Burgoyne Road, Walkley, a few weeks ago (although it may just have been a discussion, rather than a plan). Currently there's just Iyengar classes there, but I'll ask when I'm next in and get back to you.

My teacher will be around until the end of January 2006, soI have a bit of time. I noticed that the yoga threads on here don't attract much attention so to find a specific type of yoga may be a long shot indeed:D

what is Iyengar?

Iyengar yoga is a form developed by BKS Iyengar, who's now in his late 80s, and has really impressive mobility and strength. It's very slow and exacting (and painful), and can mean holding the same pose for up to 10 minutes, but it's brilliant for use with props for those who have health needs, although others do it too.

Big sis is an Ashtanga fan, and her comment from doing yoga together was "you Iyengar people, you're so picky about where my feet go!". My teacher took that as a compliment.

I hope that you do find a class- have you tried the leisure centres? I know that Hillsborough and Ponds Forge both hold yoga classes, but I don't know what sort.

I'll let you know if the plans at the Yoga Centre include Ashtanga anyway.

hi, i do ashtanga in sheffield with a really good teacher. the guy is called pete gill and he teaches above the pine shop on london road opposite airy fairy. he runs lots of classes at different times during the week. due to space restrictions classes are limited to about eight students and therefore its also recommonded that you 'book a slot'. his no. is 07837085334.
