I'm sure most of you will have seen those adverts on the TV for some 'new' magazine which allows you to build a doll's house, steam train, etc. They come out monthly and with every issue you get a new part for your project and instructions on how it fits together.

Next time the advert is on, rather than turn over or stare at the old guy making his train, watch the 'small print' at the bottom of the screen. The one I saw yesterday said "£1.99 intro price, normal issue price £3.99 - 72 to collect".

.... :o :o 72 issues?! That's around £285 just to make a doll's house or some replica train! Surely it would be cheaper to buy a model kit from your local toy shop? Or am I missing something here.

yeah those ppl con u. when u pay for something cheap for a long period of time, u never realized how much u actually had given them.

i dunno if anyone saw this advert in the papers, saying they will send u a free guide to improve ur english and stuff. when i got the guide, it wasnt really a guide, it was a booklet selling their "product". inside the book, it was split into sections like "how to improve ur written english", "the secret of speaking" etc, but it wasnt really teaching u anything, it was telling u what u will learn when u buy their "product". their product was a set of books and tapes and they were very expensive! after ignoring them, they kept mailing me junk telling me to buy their product!

btw they are based in stockport just incase anyone came across them =P

Can you say "rip-off?"

these part works are a bit of a con, IMHO, because after the first dozen/couple of dozen issues, you can't get them in the shops, they've gone "subscription only"

(remember the Figurine Panni sticker ablums that everyone went mad for in the 70's?

you inevitably had about half a dozen stickers missing still by the time the set you were collecting were discontinued!

It's just a big swizz!

Ooooh what was one of those latest ones advertised on TV? Was it a model boat, or soldiers or something like that.

Normal price £7.99, 72 to collect

Anyone who buys that must be :loopy:

Appararently, the really bizarre thing is that sales drop steadily throughout the series - even to the point that some people buy all the magazines except for the last one.

Imagine buying 71 magazines, building your horse or train and not buying the one with the final part in it!
