I've been in Sheffield For about 9 months now & i was beginning to think i shouldnt have moved here, but today changed things!

a Few weeks ago i applied for a job AGAIN, but got told more or less to sod off cos i only had a birth certificate as ID, today i got a call from the same company offering me a position in customer service starting monday!

Im so excited i feel like running round the block a few times lol

Over the past several months, ive had 99% grief for ignorant, nasty people, but it now feels as if im getting somewhere!

Looks like its gonna be a good xmas after all

I wasnt being nasty - i was just hoping you knew what you let yourslef in for. Customer service is the most thankless job on the planet...next to being a sound engineer.

But sometimes you get a great customer who really loves you - it takes a certain type of person to work in CS.

Ive been doing cust serv work for about 10 years now. I know some days are hell, some are bad, but when you get really happy, thankful customers - that makes your day!

Customer service is the most rewarding job you can get if you give good customer service a normal person will respond to you if you are good I hardly ever have a problem as i am good at managing people if you have problems itmay mean that the person needs more training I work in pensions with ifa's and they can be a little testy.

I work in Tech support/Customer services and it is VERY trying sometimes.

My mate once said to me "Its like this, they dont care if you are if you are having a w*nk under the desk as long as you sound like you are processing their credit card.." :gag:

Hi Daz25,

Well done on getting the job - you must be delighted.

One thing I would say is that you shouldn't take everything that certain people say too much to heart. Kirky and Owdlad are one of the Forum double-acts. They'll hate me for saying this but they're like Statler and Waldorf on the muppet show.... ;)

They'd probably say that I, on the other hand, was some unholy combination of Kermit the Frog and Sam, the American Eagle. :)

Enjoy the Forum.

Congrats on the new job! Good news can be pretty few and far between, so good on you for achieving this, and don't listen to unsupportive comments.

It's your life and your choices to make- I have a friend who's in customer service for Transco, and she finds it really rewarding, the thought that she's sorting out hassles for people. It's kind of like nursing or caring jobs- you get to see the bad side of people as well as the good, but since most people do have a good side you get the grateful just as often as you get the ignorant.

And the world needs good customer care people, so go for it, and I hope that it's everything that you hoped for (and that you get to have a little treat over Christmas as congratulations).
