ok...theres a slim chance i'll be buying myself a proper amp. i have a crappy little marshall practice amp at the moment which never would go loud enough in practice. after a blown up PA i had to use my marshall and realised just how knackered my little amp is.

im thinking of budget around 250-300. my guitar is a maverick f1 (if that makes any dif) and sound is definately rock... give me an amp that makes me sound like randy rhodes ;) haha.

i like the look of the spider 212 which ive seen around the 100 quid mark... (id prefer to buy 2nd hand to get better deal) but what is there out there for a bit more?

also wots the dif in buying a head and a ..ermm. cabinet do u call it?

oppinion... get your butt down to Sound Control on City Road or in town with your guitar, tell them your upper limit, what you plan to play and where you plan to play... they'll advice you pretty well, and you can have a jam and see what you like...

head + cabinet will set you back more, but head units are basically where its at, your going to get more raw power from them than a combi... especially when your talking a nice 100w head unit mmm, and also you can change the speakers/cones to what you prefer, you dont need to go marshall head and marshall cabinet if you dont want :)

Marshall or Peavy -- maybe Fender

the (in my opinion) best guitar amps you can get, and especially for stage use are Marshall..

im not sure on models as you would really have to try them out with your giutar to get the best sound match..

Get on to City Road, to Academy of sound, they have some there you can test out and listen to, They are brilliant there, even offer you a cup of tea if you want one :)

It's Sound Control now... they bought them out :( but yeah Marshall are the dogs... but again, its all preference, if your some crazy metal head you'd probably prefer some Mesa Boogie head rather than a Marshall...

the only way to ever be sure is to just go and play, nobody will ever be able to say "this guitar is for you" or "this amp is what you want"... its all personal choice in the end, what sound you like, what you plan to use it for, what you plan to play...

but to be honest, a decent marshall will do you well with some nice Boss pedals for effects/distortion :)
