View Full Version : What to buy for 50 year old?
Please can I have any helpful suggestions on what to buy my brother-in-law for his 50th birthday.
Try to keep it reasonably sensible my forumming friends!
Thanking you in anticipation of some marvellous ideas. xx
We need a bit more than his age to suggest something really.
DragonofAna 10-11-2005, 10:54 For instance - do you like him?
Its important as we may suggest some unpleasantries for someone you do not like but feel obligued to buy for.
Dragon
Well Nick - that is the problem really. We are not a very close family and dont see much of him. Only recently re-united following the death of our Nan.
He rides a motor bike and likes gardening is all I can think of!
Dragon - we like him well enough, he is a tad boring however.
buy him a garden knome with long hair and a bald patch..
lol Kirky. Maybe a garden ornament though - mmmm theres an idea
cloudybay 10-11-2005, 11:09 A Thai bride, mistress, blow up doll ? Just a thought ...........
What sort of budget do you have?
As he will be 50, prepared to go up to £50 I think Max

£50's worth of Lottery Tickets - could end up being the best present he ever had!!!
How about a Red Letter Day - they sell them in Boots and Argos it's things like Hot Air Ballooning or Car Racing, Quad Bikes etc. There are various day activities - not sure how much but maybe another family member could go halfs with you.

Good idea Dawny, just what a 50 year old wants.
Steevie - thanks for that - made me laugh.
Dawny - good ideas those - especially as they were endorsed by Owdlad - whose birthday it ISNT today!
Thanks
Hi Sultana- if this is the person that I think it is (is he having a weekend party in the Dales?) then I'd get him something music related- new strings for his mandolin, some easy but nice sheet music (he has plenty of time on his hands in out of the way places to practice it), something like that. In fact, that's the kind of thing that I think I'll be getting him.
Alternatively, take a trip to the aquatic gardening centre and get him a lovely new marginal plant or similar.
Thanks Medusa, but not the same geezer. No weekend in the dales for us mores the pity!
Oh well, sorry! There's a big coincidence there, you know.
how about a bottle of whisky/wine/port/etc... that was bottled in the year he was born?

I think I'd just send a card then, and wait until you know him a bit better before you buy a prezzie.

JEEZ! You're going to spend 50 notes on someone who isn't close family? ... If you ever consider adopting, can I ask that you bear me in mind please? ... I'm fully house-trained! ;)

read more carefully. It's his brother, that's close family. They just aren't a very close family.
Thank you all very much for your help - I now have a few ideas to mull over, alternatively, I shall just leave it up to my husband to decide - it is his brother after all!
Stiil wish I was going to this party in the dales though! lol

Read even more carefully and you'll see that he's a she and it's her brother-in-law that she's talking about....
Close family that aren't a very close family, eh? Of Irish extraction maybe?
My initial post was a JOKE Cyclone, hardly worth your pedantry I think? ;)

Sultana, whilst ever you're buying expensive presents for non-close family members, that's probably not going to happen! :( ;)

You said it - he is my husbands only brother - as blood relatives go they dont get much closer. However, we dont see them very often, but when it comes to special occasions - you have to forget the petty squabbles of youth - and do the decent thing. We may only spend £20 if we find the right gift....and no....I cant send you the difference. lol
bornandbred 10-11-2005, 16:28 If he likes gardening what about a national gardening gift voucher. Website (http://www.nggv.co.uk) says can be used in over 2000 garden centres.
