Mainly wear them for driving (always), watching telly, and when I go to the pub.

I always have to wear glasses, if I took them off I would have problems seeing things.

Are you kidding? I'm -12 in both eyes. Not wearing them would be at best stupid, and at worst downright suicidal. The only break I get is when I'm asleep or when I can be bothered to put some contat lenses in.

I hear Lord Chaverly & Lord Snooty wear One Of THESE (http://www.sillyjokes.co.uk/images/dress-up/acc/monocle-goldthread-big.jpg) but there isn't an option for Upper Crust fashions

there should be a contact lense option for those of us who are ashamed of our glasses wearing, and keep it behind closed doors whenever possible.

The shame, the shame...

I just fixed mine with a kinfe and a tiny screw, i'm so very proud.

Ive got Keratuconus (sp?) and apparently im not supposed to wear glasses but have to wear contacts, but I refuse to wear contacts as I have to wear the hard ones and they hurt like hell. So ive decided not to wear any and just go blind instead :)

Started wearing glasses aged 16. Now 57, but as age has progressed, by eyesight has changed. Although I still wear glasses, I cannot wear them for close-up work.

Consequently..... I take off my glasses to read the days post, work on the pc, read the paper, prepare a meal, and similar. The trouble is, I can't then remember where I've put my glasses, and because I'm not wearing them, I can't see to find them!

{Yes doctor, coming now, just getting my coat....and trying to find my glasses :hihi:}

That's simply untrue Robbie... although admittedly my eyesight is shockingly bad, so I can rarely see well enough to tell whether someone is ugly or not!

I have worn glasses for probably 40 years, with a few years of contact lens wearing in between.

There is an advert on TV which says 'you can wear up to thirty pairs of glasses in a lifetime' does anyone else think that this is a rather low estimate?

I just replaced a lovely Alain Mikli pair with some Prada ones because I like the change in appearance that goes with a new pair. Can't imagine how many pairs I've got through, just remembered two pairs of prescription sunglasses and a pair of prescription swimming goggles too!

Know exactly what you mean  If the fone goes while I'm sleeping, I have to put my gigs on before I answer it. Now how loopy is that, we cannot hear without our glasses  :loopy:

All the time, blind as a bat without. It just enhances the "ugly geek" chic, y'know, took years of practising to need lenses that were 'orrible & thick enough...

Yes I wear glasses and have done since I was 11. I have tried lenses but didn't get on with them and am too much of a coward to go for laser treatment.
When I used to go dancing in my teens, I ALWAYS took them off. Well,.... my mate and I proved that if I was wearing them we never got asked to dance. When I took them off, we never sat down. Only downside being that when a dance was finished I used to have to ask my partner if he could see my mate and angle a way to get back to where she was. Then I would have to ask her, "what was he like?".....Couldn't see a thing without them but too vain to accept it.
Still, I've learned to live with it. :hihi:

I used to wear glasses up to April of this year when I switched to those contact lenses you wear for a month (including sleeping in them) and throw them away.

They're absolutely great, you can't feel them and I get headaches far less than I used to with specs.

I am very lucky to have 20/20 vision and never needed glasses. But whats so bad about them?? I think they look cool on some people and if you need to wear them, Then surley it become's a need over vanity?

Just about every Relationship i have been in the girl i have been with as wore glasses and they all looked very atractive in glasses but i guess i dont have to wear them day in day out so its back to my question whats so bad about them?

I wear them all the time, except when I wear lenses for going out if i can be bothered.
Keep considering laser surgery, I know two people now that have had it done and both are very happy with it.

I only realy need glasses when I'm reading (books or screens) I'm ok otherwise.

I would like laser surgery but it's soooo expensive.

If you have laser surgery, then in years to come get cataracts, will the thickening of the tissue inside your eye mean less chance of future corrective surgery? Sorry, I'm hi-jacking the thread, but I would like to know! :o

I wear glasses for reading and close work. I also wear them when I get headache or migraine as it takes the strain off my eyes.

I'm off to specsavers tomorrow for my 2 yearly check up.

I guess we will have to wait a few years to find out as laser eye surgery is not that old but I don't see why it should. Any eye surgeons on here?

I used to have to wear glasses all the time. I didn't mind the way I looked - geek chic is always good but I objected to them steaming up everytime I came in from the cold and not being able to watch TV in bed lying on my side as glasses get pushed askew on the pillow. Plus headaches in the summer from squinting, inconvenience on holiday in swimming pools and the sea and putting contacts in to wear sunglasses or for a night out in a smoky club was like having razor blades stuck through my eyeballs by the end of the night.

So I went for the slice and dice option and best 1600 quid I ever spent - waking up every morning and being able to see as soon as I open my eyes is amazing. I never appreciated it when I was a kid before I had to wear glasses but I appreciate it all the time now.

It's a miracle!

I used to wear glasses to correct a wobbly left eye when I was younger.

Not any more though.

A very long time ago I had to wear glasses for working on the computer - eye strain or something - but since they brought out those flat screens and I increased from 60 to 70+hz I have had no need for specs.

Wear them in the car to cut down glare from oncoming traffic. Everyone says "What you wearing sunglasses at night for?" and then I either explain they are tinted anti-glare lenses or just fob them off with any old rubbish.

I have never wore glasses but at my current age I sometimes wonder if I may need them for reading.
Might take an eye test actually as I have not been tested for years.
Overall my sight seems good but I feel its not as good as it once was.

I voted 'always' but that's because I wear them all the time unless I'm on a night out, then the contact lenses come out :)

I used to get that when I did Taekwondo, before I started wearing contacts again during training. I always put it down to me not being able to see the instructor's mouth moving so as well as not being able to hear him too well in an echoey hall, I also couldn't 'see' what he was saying. :)

Arent the last two options the same thing? i.e. wearing glasses for longsightedness?

What if youre like me and are short sighted, so you wear them for everything else, but take them off for reading and close work.

I had a two colleagues who were late forties and had laser eye surgery. They were short sighted. Their short sight was cured but they now have to wear reading glasses. They didnt before.
This is the reason I wont go for it. As I understand it, as you age you are more likely to need reading glasses, so if you are at a certain age, you will get your short sight cured but end up with reading glasses. I dont want that! I like to read in bed and dont want to bother with glasses.

I've just sold my children into slavery and collected my new specs today.
I've worn them (just for seeing) since 11 years old but have recently had to take them off for close-up work/reading.

So I finally plunged for these new Varifocals and although I am still getting used to them, it looks like the future will be clearer!!

Nimrod
12-11-2005, 22:08
I have worn Varifocals for 10 years or more- no option, crap vision without them. Wish I didnt have to wear them but the optician tells me contacts would not be suitable.

I went to Specsavers in Hillsborough yesterday morning for my 2 yearly eye test. I needed some new specs and they said they'd call me in a few days whne they were ready.

I went to work, got back home and the phone rang at 1:30pm. It was Specsavers saying my new glasses were ready!! I was amazed!!

Now that's what I call top class service!!

Big up Specsavers!!!
