Please let me know if any of you do thanx :) Bushbaby 06-01-2006, 10:29 I once had tickets to see Tony Christie at the Fiesta. It was for a Tuesday evening, and a lot of the United players were going to be there as part of Alan Woodward’s testimonial. On the Saturday before, during World of Sport, there was a TV announcement that Tony Christie was ill and wouldn’t be appearing, and that his place would be taken by Norman Wisdom. I was gutted as I really wanted to see Tony. However it turned out to be one of the best nights I ever had. Norman was hilarious from the very start. He did all the usual “Mr Grimsdale” stuff, played a few instruments, and just generally caused mayhem, telling juvenile jokes, with his jacket slung back over his shoulders and his cap off to one side. I also got to shake hands with Tony Currie, a favourite then and now. The chicken-in-a-basket was rubbish though ExKingTed2 06-01-2006, 12:54 Originally posted by deelightful3 yep i went quite a few times, saw the nolans, cannon and ball, showaddywaddy and a very good hypnotist,i think his name was martin st james, used to get free tickets my mum knew one of the receptionists there.I was only 16 at the time as well. I can remember seeing Martin St James. He got my mate up and hypnotised him into jumping up on to a table and shouting "The Russians are coming" everytime he heard a certain phrase. It was magic !! Also remember watching Tommy Cooper - just like that. erino 06-01-2006, 14:59 Originally posted by jaccuziman Hello My mother Jean Hull used to work there, she has told me all the stories over the years ! Another time I was talking to a friend, turned round and tripped up Freddie (of Freddie and the Dreamers). I went with my wife Sylvia. We had a decent seat to the right of the stage. We were just settling in for the night when another couple walked up and said," You've got our seats!" We looked at our tickets and said, " No these are definitely the seats we booked!" We called the manager and after a quick discussion he realised that there had been a double booking. He asked if we would accept alternative seats and when he showed us where they were, we were only too willing to accept. The seats were immediately under the stage at middle front. The double booking did us a favour and we never enjoyed a night so much. I also remember seeing Cilla Black at the Fiesta. Happy Days! erb666 14-01-2006, 00:53 ervin/ ivan the door man(of sorts) anybody remember him ? parsleydiva 05-07-2007, 19:53 Hi, just recently joined The Forum and spotted this page. I used to go to the Fiesta Club quite often and remember seeing Marti Caine there as a support act! Had some wonderful nights there, remember The Supremes too. My sister used to work there. GJ2004 07-07-2007, 13:44 I worked at the fiesta in 1971/2 used to be on what was called Bar 9 next to the stage then moved down stairs when they open the disco room still have great memories don't remember many names though except one in particular "Linda Go Go " got her name as she "aparently used to dance at the Black Swan before then Is The Swan Still There Now ? Andy the dj 14-10-2007, 14:15 Ah yes the good old days of the fiesta. heres another one of my threads ill probably get hung for, by the time the club was on its last legs and about to close i was just about old enough to get in,so dont have to many persional memories but my mum and dad went quite often. apart from bad management in the end (didnt the last owner take off to America with the takings of owing a lot of money) correct me if im wrong.around 1979. To compete the club had to pay silly money to the artists in the end. i persionally hold shirly bassy responsable (and a few others) for the death of the fiesta, with the fee they charged to appear. Pure greed. if it wasnt for the fans these artists would be know where or still on the wmc circuit.in those days the artists didnt have as many over heads as they have today. Bring back entertainment for all,not just the under 25s. whitehorses 14-10-2007, 15:53 Yeah, I went in the fiesta a few times, I was under age of course, but thought it well sophisticated!I actually liked the chicken in a basket!(The meal, not an act!) One of my school friend's Dad used to work there, his name was I think Terry cole, also Diane ward if anyone knew them. Syme 17-10-2007, 16:33 Where was this place located? Eleke95 17-10-2007, 16:55 Wasn't the Fiesta the now empty ROXYS building? daftlad 17-10-2007, 19:19 Wasn't the Fiesta the now empty ROXYS building? No the roxy was originally the top rank. The fiesta was what is now the cinema at the side of it THE FLUTER 17-10-2007, 19:44 I reckon that by about 1975 me and a few school mates ( ex Ecclesfield Comp ) did frequent the Fiesta a number of times.Remember going to see the lovely, if diminutive, Lynsey De Paul. What a gig, and at the end she finished with Won't Somebody Dance With Me ? And right at the very end she beckoned to the male section of audience, Well won't somebody dance with me ? Cue a mad rush to the front to oblige, never actually danced with her but got close enough to grab a smile.Lucky old James Coburn is what i say ( God rest his soul ) splatty 31-03-2008, 20:20 josie platts was a recepionist used to get my tickets free |
