View Full Version : Who will be the next Dr Who?
The show is due to be revived in 2005. Who do you think will be the next Dr Who or who would you like to be Dr Who? I've heard a rumor that Paul Daniels might be in with a shout. :o :D
It would be more goodluck for Daniels who recently managed to get planning permission to raise his flood-damaged home after a lengthy appeal.
I would love to see Eddie Izzard doing it. I think he is made for the role! I heard rumours that he had been approached.
I'd vote for Richard E Grant, doing a similar kind of Doctor to the late Jon Pertwee, an eccentric older man with a love of gadgets.
Alternatively they could keep Paul McGann for a bit given that he was the last Doctor seen on TV (remember the TV movie a few years back?).
Who would you vote for the Doctor's assistant though? I say bring Ace (Sophie Aldred) back, she was a BABE back in the day, and probably needs the exposure nowadays cos nobody's seen anything of her for years, probably since she worked with Sylvester McCoy on Doctor Who in the late 80s/early 90s.
jackthedog 10-02-2004, 08:53 Richard E Grant did the voice for the recent animated Doctor Who thing. The drawings were based on him too. Quite a good choice I think, but Eddie Izzard would be bang on perfect for that role. I think he could make me actaully enjoy Doctor Who.
Richard E Grant has played doctor who already, I think it was on children in need or comic relief, one or the other. I saw it, it was a one off thing. He would be good but Eddie would be the best imo!
Maybe the we could have a female Doctor, it is the 21st century after all. I think Dawn French would play the part well.
Having watched the Ronnie Barker tribute on Sat. I think he would make a great Doctor. Pity he has retired.

Mosherchik 10-02-2004, 16:08 Would love to see Eddie as Dr Who...but I also believe the lovely Alan Davis has been approached. Probably trying to rekindle the good old days of Tom Baker's manic hair! Either actors/comedians would suit me fine!
Wasnt much of a fan of The Dr Who TV film though, they broke the essential rule of Dr Who, do not under any circumstances have kissy kissy between the Time Lord and his assistant!!! that is just wrong!
Mind you if they have Eddie up for the Dr Id be quite willing to play the assistant and throw the above rule out of the window :D

It was American, what do you expect? They can't make anything without adding a touch of romance into the equasion.

True! Trust the Americans to make a mess of things!
If a woman were to be the Doctor, it'd be a tie between Claire Sweeney or Catherine Zeta Jones for who I'd pick as the Doc.
Shallow Grave actor Christopher Eccleston has been named as the new Doctor.

Ronnie Barker's too old though, although I suppose he could've played a similar kind of Doctor to the late William Hartnell, ie a time travelling Grandad.
Hartnell was the first Doctor, followed by Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker (no relation to Tom) and Sylvester McCoy (Paul McGann doesn't count cos he weren't in the TV series).
Sam Miguel 21-03-2004, 20:26 I feel that the actor who played Father Jack in Father Ted would make a splendid Doctor Who.
Mosherchik 30-03-2004, 19:47 Apparantly... and dear lord fingers crossed they find someone better... Billie Piper is in line to play the Dr's assistant.
So the line up would involve Christopher Eccleston as the Dr
Billie Piper as assistant ?????!!!!!
Cant really see it myself
:loopy:
It seems that there will be no Daleks when the new series of Dr Who when it returns.
Apparently a new enemy has been created.
