View Full Version : Where are you spending Christmas?

Strix

With the increasing number of people taking the 'bah humbug' attitude towards Christmas, I was just wondering what people actually do for Christmas these days.

I hate the miserable attitude that people insist on taking shopping with them at this time of year, but thoroughly enjoy the chance to catch up with all the family we don't get to see very often.

So what will you all be up to at Christmas?

It's my little boys' first ever Christmas so on Christmas Eve/Day and Boxing Day we are running around all the family to ensure everyone gets to see their grandson/great grandson/nephew etc....

It's an organizational nightmare and I can't wait.

Wonder how many mince pies I can get through?

Is it really?

Why? It's not another anti-Christmas mob trying to spoil what little fun there is left in the world?

Well I shall eat my mince pie covertly.

We will be staying at home with the kids - if it wasnt for them we wouldnt bother with christmas.

Kids up about 6am to unwrap presents (as usual)
Dinner around midday and the wife off to work at 2pm.

This leaves me in front of the tv while the kids are destroying all the nice new toys :D

Probably get a visit from the monsters in law as well

Having often worked an 8 or 16 hour shift on Christmas Day on my own for many years in my former job, I'm looking forward to Christmas day at a friend's house for dinner with the family.

As well as my partner coming too, there will be two excitable young girls, their various assorted uncles and aunts and a granny thrown in. It will be a happy occasion I'm sure.

But it's only early November! Why are we discussing Christmas so soon?

I have no idea yet, depends if my grandad is still in hospital as to when/where if I will see my mums side of the family, will go horseriding in the morning with my dad walking, think my boyfriend will have to work most of the day in the pub, so will help him out and spend most of the day with him, and been invited to his parents for dinner.... so er not too sure of the exact plans yet!
:loopy:
Will be nice not to work all day for once!!!!!

I'll be locked in my flat with my boyfriend and our cat...(and if i get my way a new kitten!)

My boyf normally does panto in london for 8 weeks over christmas so this is our first one at home together... after boxing day it'll be a road trip to london to see his parents, birmingham to see mine culminating in new year at my older sisters in walsall!

Actually looking forward to christmas this year... didn't bother with decorations or anything last year cos there was only me and tabby to appreciate them... my dad's house is always a grotto though thanks to my little sister...

I shall be at home trying to fit as many English meals in for my son who is coming home for Christmas.
He has managed only 3 Christmas's in the UK out of 20 living as he does in Japan.
They don't celebrate it there but he always cooks a special lunch for his wife and her family and she in her turn tries to give him a little bit of "his Christmas" because he always feels a tad homesick then.
This year he is travelling alone so I expect we will also be flying around visiting as many places as possible too.
I HAVE started my shopping and writing out my cards. He arrives on the 22 Dec so I want EVERYTHING sorted by then so that I can settle down and enjoy it.
After years of Hotel Work where Christmas's and Bank Holidays were only for the guests it will be nice to participate in the fun.

Our Christmas Day will be spent with my Nan and my Uncle as always, having a Christmas meal and trying to stop Nan from getting up to wash the bloody pots in between each course, I tell you the woman's OBSESSED with pot washing! Always has been! Then after the Lunchtime meal we'll all sit in the Lounge, watching The Queen, and some crap old film on ITV that's been on about 50 Million times already like James Bond etc.

I of course will be in my room hopefully playing either Kameo, Quake 4 or Dead or Alive 4 on my shiny new Xbox 360 console :D

Only joking! Just me and my partner for Christmas day! Last year it snowed and we went for a walk in the park and made big snow footprints! Hope it's the same this year.

Well, I'm spending it alone out of choice, but I agree that lots have no choice and my heart goes out to them. As Robbie has mentioned though, there are thousands who would give their right arm to spend Christmas alone, rather than with people they can't stand.

Cloudy - you can get into your bmw and we can drive to Scarbro. Have a bit of fun on the A65. Winter walk on the beach. I know you don't like walking but hey ho.

What better way to spend vhristmas day when you would otherwise be alone?

I still haven't decided. I really want to make this x-mas a bit different. I'm pretty fed up of feeling guilty for not spending time with my family. My Grandmother has told me it's her last Christmas for 5 years now but she's still here, so I would really like to escape from the whole traditional day and have a real laugh.

Christmas for me is a chance to have my loyalties pulled in lots of different directions by the warring collection of people, non of whom are on 'good terms' with each other, who I suppose you could loosly refer to as my family.

Excuse me if I don't bust a gut with excitement :(

Christmas is all about the small children anyhow, you have to grin and bare it for their sakes........being broke afterwards, dreading the credit card bills comming in January, can't blame some people for not looking forward to it , but still put on a smile for your youngsters on Christmas morning, that s what parentings all about.

I'm sure I replied to this thread, but evidently not.

Christmas Day: Dad and his partner and her family.

Boxing Day - 29th: My mother's side [what's left of them - :P ;)] - my aunt, aunt 2 and uncle, cousin, and a couple that are somewhere up the family tree.

Then the Walkley mob are probably coming down on the 28th...
