Does anyone know of anywhere in SHeffield or Rotherham that does Zumba classes?

A friend of mine in Amerca was telling me about it a few months ago, and after watching it on Youtube I thought it looked ace.

I bought a DVD a while back, but never use it, so wanted to find a class instead but it's proving difficult!

Hi
If you want to take a class in the meantime I have been running a number of classes in Barnsley and Pontefract for a while now. They are community run so no memberships or subscriptions are required.

Please see www . foxy-fitness . com (had to add spaces as the website kept throwing it out!) for more details. Zumba Kids and Zumba Toning will be coming in September 2009.

Thanks!

Hi
Originally Zumba started out as a pseudo-latino style dance aerobics but now it varies tremendously.
Zumba fitness classes are basically quirky, upbeat dancey aerobic moves to loud booty-shaking music. Unlike traditional salsa or ballroom or street dance classes, zumba moves can vary tremendously. Instructors can put anything and everything they want into it to create a diverse, energetic and fun class. Also, the moves may also differ from song to song instead of repeating in an hour-long circuit.
I use Zumba teaching techniques for my aerodance class all the time and my students love it. If you have Zumba in your club, give it a shot ... you wont be disappointed. Hope this helps. Happy dancing! xx

I am a qualified Zumba instructor and will be doing some FREE taster sessions at my studio for the next few weeks! Come and have a go!

Based on Latin dance moves, the easy routines in Zumba will have you shakin' that booty and having a laugh without even noticing that you're burning hundreds of calories along the way! And remeber, you dont have to be a great dancer to have a great time!

First free session will be on Tuesday 31st August at 6-7pm.

Contact me on 07977135870 as places are limited and I expect they will fill up quite quickly.

polegrrrl
26-08-2010, 05:56
The free sessions will be at 6pm on Tuesday 31st August, 7th and 14th September at 6pm. I'm then away for 2 weeks and the proper classes that you need to pay for will start in October.

I'll be continuing on Tuesdays at 6pm, but if it goes well I'll probably put an extra class on after that.

I can't say for DEFINITE, but I think I'll be charging £4 per class or £35 for a block of 10.

Let me know if you want a go cos places are filling up!

Zumba is a fitness class kind of like aerobics but with salsa and latin dance moves thrown in, the music is great, you don't feel like your at a fitness class.

Zumba runs on a monday 6.30-7.30, tuesday 8-9 and wednesday 6-7pm

Each class is £6 per person with student discount given. You also receive a Zumba card which entitles you to a free class after you have been to 10 classes, very good value

Our facilities at City-Limits are the best in Yorkshire. Come and see why, we are on Penistone Road next door but one to McDonalds

First class at Ponds forge this friday at 7.30pm, the previous week was postponed. No one will know what they are doing, so the best time to get on board! It will be about £4 or £5 a class, think its a bit cheaper if its a 45 minute class, but its free if you take the Unlimited membership to access the SIV gyms and classes at Ponds Forge, Hillsborough, Concord and Don Valley.

Also Fitness First do a class on Monday evening, starts at 8.15pm. You don't need to be a member of the gym. Think it's about £5 a class. I've not tried this class yet, but I'm going to to compare it with the City Limits class.

Zumba at City Limits is on Tuesdays at 8pm. It's great fun, but I don't find it massively energetic.

Zumba Party Chesterfield <http://www.facebook.com/album.php?profile=1&id=129582457103642>

JOIN THE NEW FITNESS CRAZE WHICH IS SWEEPING CHESTERFIELD LIKE A STORM!

Zumba is a dance-based fitness class inspired by Latin American rhythms - Cumbia, Reggaeton, Salsa and Merengue. Demand has been immense with nearly 60 people shaking their shimmies in class last night! Come along and find out how to have fun and exercise.

Parkside School, Boythorpe Avenue with Sue McGregor - Tuesdays at 5.30pm - Thursdays at 5.30pm

Classes will are run weekly at £4.00 per session

Ashover Parish Hall, Ashover with Sue McGregor - Taster sessions 11 am on Saturday 22nd January and 5th February
Introductory price of £3.00 per session
Both these venues are lovely large halls with a stage, so no problem being able to see!

About Zumba®
Let's face it, working out can be healthy, rewarding and beneficial. Working out can be lots of things, but it's never been known to be an exhilarating experience…UNTIL NOW!
The Zumba® program fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program that will blow you away. Our goal is simple: we want you to want to work out, to love working out, to get hooked. Zumba® fanatics achieve long-term benefits while experiencing an absolute blast in one exciting hour of calorie-burning, body-energizing, awe-inspiring movements meant to engage and captivate for life!
The routines feature interval training sessions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance training are combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat. Add some Latin flavor and international zest into the mix and you've got a Zumba® class!
In the past years, the Zumba® program has become nothing short of a revolution, spreading like wildfire, and positioning itself as the single most influential movement in the industry of fitness.
As of October 2010, the Zumba® program is being taught at over 90,000 locations in 110 countries, has sold millions of DVDs, and has changed the lives of Zumba® fanatics worldwide with an astonishing 10 million participants taking Zumba classes every week.
Why? Because it's the best party around.

What to bring

Try to wear shoes which don't have much grip or tread. In Zumba there is alot of medial/lateral/twisting movement - traditional running or cross trainers have grip and are designed for forward movement so are not ideal. Aerobic, court trainers, dance, jazz shoes or even old trainers where the tread has worn away will be ideal. You will also need a small hand towel and some water.

For further information or to book on any of the above classes please contact:

Sue McGregor - 07958 673891 or email: <mailto:suemcgregorpilates@hotmail.com> suemcgregorpilates@hotmail.com <mailto:suemcgregorpilates@hotmail.com>

Both sessions are proving to be very popular and booking is essential to secure a place.

DITCH THE WORKOUT, JOIN THE PARTY!

The pictures of pole dancing at butterfly studios look amazing. I've always been put off by the associations that go with pole dancing! If only there was a bus from walkley to Meersbrook! The Hula hoop classes look good too

ive tried pole dancing clsses before it was terrible. i couldnt do any of the moves, i was the only one who couldnt do them. very difficult and you need to be small/thin so you can hold your own weight.

i think only suitable for people under 9 stone. my mate who is tiny was flying round the pole, i felt like a right idiot!

I found it took about 6 weeks for things to become do able but I'm not nearly as good as a lot of people but I enjoy it. Where I go you don't feel sill because everyone is different levels anyway so maybe it was where you went

Hey Daisyboo! So sorry you had a bad experience when you tried it but as a pole student and now instructor I can tell you it's great for anyone, it does take a while to get the hang of it. It did for me anyway :) and I have never looked back. I know lots of people all shapes, ages and sizes that love it! I would definitely suggest doing it again if you have a class near you.

I used to go pole dancing, there was 2 reasonably big girls who went and they were fantastic! Im 5ft 10, about 11stone and rubbish :D No upper body strength at all - was very good exercise though!!

As I've been to a couple of Eve's pole classes that's almost certainly a no!

Pole is a tough workout and requires a lot of strength (similar to say climbing or a lot of circus skills) but it's certainly not only for the tiny! If you've gone into the classes with a comparatively low level of strength then it will take time to build it up as with any sport or exercise.
