Hi all,
I am writing on behalf of the 'Yes to Fairer Votes' group Sheffield, we are a non party affiliated, voluntary group campaigning for a yes vote in the upcoming referendum this May on changing our broken electoral system. The new system, known as Alternative Vote, allows people to specify an order of preference on their ballot paper, rather than simply marking a cross by one candidate. This is fairer because it means that everyone's vote will count, and there will be no need to vote tactically in order to have a say on the outcome of the election. The referendum is shaping up to be a real battle for democracy, with powerful groups who have an interest in maintaining today's broken system arrayed against small community organisations who want to take back power for the people from the MPs who have comfortable jobs for life.
We desperately need a local base to work from, but, as you may have guessed, our budget is small. Ideally we're looking for someone who would be supportive of our aims who has a room going spare for the next 18 weeks that they would be prepared to let us have for little or no cost. Do you know of anything at all that might match our requirements? Or anyone at all who may be able to help us?
Any suggestions at all would be most welcome,
